‘Poverty in Malaysia close to nil’

SIBU 23/12/2012: The BN government, especially under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, has been working very hard over the years to get the people out of the clutches of poverty.

Kanowit MP Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said these sacrifices had paid off for poverty level was now close to nil nationwide.

Speaking at GiatMara’s graduation ceremony for Central  Zone II here yesterday, Aaron opined that the 1Malaysia concept, which was introduced by the prime minister some four years ago, had helped bring about this positive result.

“Before, about 70 per cent of the people in Malaysia lived under the poverty line. Now, we can say zero or 0.1 per cent of the people live under the poverty line,”

SAPP ACCUSES NRD OF DOUBLE STANDARD

SAPP accuses NRD of double standard

KOTA KINABALU 11/10/2012: Sepanggar member of parliament Datuk Eric Majimbun accused the federal government of applying a different set of procedures when dealing with Sabah-born Malaysians and foreign-borns registering for birth certificates in the state.

He said the procedures adopted by Kuala Lumpur marginalised and discriminated against the people of Sabah, particularly those in the rural areas where many children do not have birth certificate.

Majimbun further alleged that when these applicants, with the assistance of local community leaders, finally get their documents, the National Registration Department (NRD) would stamp in red ink, the words ‘Late Registration’.

POVERTY IN RANAU: WHO’S LYING?

Poverty in Ranau: Who’s lying?

An Upko MP's concern about the high incidences of abject poverty in Sabah's Ranau district is in contrast to an Umno assemblyman's public denial.

RANAU July 5, 2012: Barisan Nasional representatives are at odds over the status of Ranau district in central Sabah which hosts multiple cases of extreme poverty. Ranau is also surrounded by areas that are poverty-stricken, an anomaly by itself in a state blessed with bountiful oil and gas.

Ranau MP Siringan Gubat, a member of BN component, Upko, recently told Parliament that the incidence of poverty in Ranau was ‘worrying’.

But much earlier in April, Keranaan assemblyman, Masidi Manjun of Umno denied this, saying Ranau cannot be the poorest district as development was taking place there.
