DR MAHATHIR: NO DIRECTIVE TO ISSUE IC TO UNQUALIFIED MIGRANTS

Dr Mahathir: No directive to issue IC to unqualified migrants

PAPAR 17/03/2013: The government had never issued any directive to any quarters to issue identity cards (IC) or citizenship to unqualified immigrants in Sabah, said Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

As such, he said, Sabahans could not blame the government during his administration over cases of fraud committed by certain parties for self-interest.

"I am aware the issue (IC project) is getting the attention of the people. I have been told, there were those who were not qualified, having just arrived, who received IC.

"This is not our directive, not the government's directive...this is fraud on the part of the officers in the area because of other interests,"

OSU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF HIMSELF, SAYS ARIAH

Osu should be ashamed of himself, says Ariah

Kota Kinabalu 21/01/2013: Former PBS Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Ariah Tengku Ahmad, 75, is glad that the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on Illegal Immigrants in Sabah has at least provided the platform for truth to prevail.

She said if not for the inquiry's testimonies, the reality surrounding the controversial electoral results of the Kawang Constituency in the 1994 State Election was now made known to the world.

She praised the Najib administration for heeding the wishes of Sabahans for the inquiry and said it would help regain the trust of the people. Ariah, who was Kawang Assemblywoman from 1985 to March 1994, lost to then BN-Umno candidate, Datuk Osu Sukam, by a mere 64 votes.

"Winning an election through sheer deceit is no victory but a most dishonourable and condemnable act. Shame on you, Osu.

You did not deserve to win and go on to become the Chief Minister.

“We understand that several issues related to social development can be compromised as it involves having and managing a budget although we know that Sabah is rich in natural resources.

“But issues related to security, sovereignty and the pride of Sabahans can no longer be compromised.

“We cannot, not even a second, deny and turn a blind eye when foreigners can easily obtain their citizenship,”

KOTA KINABALU 23/11/2012: The Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into the fraudulent issuance of citizenship to illegal immigrants has hardly got off the ground but has already run into controversy.

Its move to call for testimony for witnesses at its “whim and fancy” will render its investigation far short of what the people of Sabah are expecting, an MP from Sabah said today.

“The commission must conduct an open hearing to give opportunities for the public who want to offer testimonies without restriction,”
