MOHAMMAD MENTEK DILANTIK PENGARAH ESSCOM MULAI 1 APRIL

Mohammad Mentek dilantik Pengarah Esscom mulai 1 April

KUALA LUMPUR 29/03/2013- Pengarah Imigresen Sabah Datuk Mohammad Mentek dilantik sebagai Pengarah Kawasan Keselamatan Khas Pantai Timur Sabah (Esscom) mulai 1 April.

Ketua Setiausaha Negara Datuk Seri Dr Ali Hamsa ketika mengumumkan pelantikan itu hari ini, berkata Mohammad, 48, berpengalaman dalam bidang pembangunan dan pengurusan sumber manusia, kewangan dan keselamatan.

SABAH TRANSPLANT RESOURCE CENTRE SOON

KOTA KINABALU 09/12/2012:  If everything goes well, a Sabah Transplant Resource Centre will be set up at Queen Elizabeth Hospital I soon.

Sabah Health Department director Dr Christina Rundi in disclosing this, hoped that through the setting up of the centre, they would be able to create greater awareness on the importance of organ donation among the people.

Speaking during the closing ceremony of the Organ Donation Promotion Campaign for Sabah here yesterday, Christina said that apart from promoting the programme to the public, they must first educate their staff on the matter.

“It is important for the staff to understand organ donation to ensure the success of this programme,”

KUALA LUMPUR 21/11/2012: Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM) mengumumkan enam produk mi segera jenama Shin Ramyun yang dikeluarkan Kumpulan Nongshim mengandungi bahan penyebab barah iaitu Benzopyrene.

Timbalan Ketua Pengarah Kesihatan Perubatan KKM, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah berkata, kementerian sudah mengambil empat sampel produk itu untuk diuji parameter Benzopyrene dan keputusan menunjukkan bahan itu dikesan dalam tiga daripada empat serbuk sup.

“Benzopyrene biasanya ditemui dalam asap rokok, makanan yang dibakar, dipanggang atau disalai dan bahan ini juga hasil sampingan dalam pelbagai industri pemprosesan,”

Supply delay and high demand blamed for problem at QEH, says state health director

KOTA KINABALU 3/11/2012: Patients are prescribed with short-term dosages of medicine due to delay on the suppliers’ side and the rapid increase in the demand for certain types of medicines.

State health director Datuk Dr Yusof Haji Ibrahim said in a reply to Sabah Progressive Party’s (SAPP) demand that the government explain the shortage of medicine at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), said the problem was only temporary.

“There is a shortage in the supply of certain types of medicines, especially for patients with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, etc., but it is only temporary and the hospital is taking various measures to help counter this issue,”

Keningau 1/11/2012: Many teachers from the peninsula and Sarawak, who filled the 50 vacancies in Pensiangan to replace those who had been sacked, have not regularly turned up in school.

This is for reasons like car problems, poor road conditions, especially during the rainy season, and no clean water supplies, in spite of it being the norm for locals in the area, said Bingkor Sabah Reform Movement Chairman, Victor Leonardus.

KOTA KINABALU 18/10/2012: The Federal Special Task Force (FSTF) Sabah expressed the opinion that it would be difficult for Filipino refugees to return to their country of origin after having settled down in the state for several years despite the recent peace deal between the Philippines government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

Its director, Datuk Haji Suhaimi Hj Mohd Salleh, said the reason may be attributed to many of their kind having attained economic stability especially by those who have stayed in Sabah since the early 1970’s.

“Many Filipino refugees have raised their families or have set up their own businesses in the state and many are found to be in possession of identification cards.

HEART PATIENT DIES DURING 6-HR AMBULANCE ORDEAL

Heart patient dies during 6-hr ambulance ordeal

Keningau 14/10/2012: A 55-year-old man suffering heart failure died while being transported by ambulance from the Keningau Hospital to Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in Kota Kinabalu last Sunday.

Along the way the family members of the deceased had to grapple with a hosts of problems from the non-availability of ambulance driver to the ambulance breaking down and the replacement ambulance having no petrol.

All of which stretched what was supposed to be a two-and-half hour journey to some six hours to transport the patient, Yap Soon Min, 55, to the State Capital.

KOTA KINABALU 9/10/2012: The family of an elderly woman admitted to the Lotong Hospital in Kota Marudu last month, have lodged a police report against the hospital for alleged inferior treatment and care.

Her nephew, John Voo, claimed that his aunt, whom he did not wish to identify, received poor treatment and care which resulted in her state of coma due to water retention in the brain.

“I do not want to make wild accusations but the poor service my aunt received at Lotong Hospital is a fact that was confirmed by doctors in Queen Elizabeth Hospital after she was transferred there,”

KOTA KINABALU 28/09/2012: The Sabah Law Association (SLA) is of the view that treating claims on customary land beyond the 1930 Land Ordinance as new land applications does not represent the state of Native Customary Rights (NCR) law.

SLA sub-committee on Native Laws Custom and Culture chairman Datuk John Sikayun said when commenting on the recent statement made by the Director of Land and Survey Department that claims of customary land beyond the 1930 Land Ordinance will be not included under the NCR but shall instead be treated as new land applications.

Kota Kinabalu September 26, 2012: Claims of customary land beyond the 1930 Land Ordinance will not be included under Native Customary Rights (NCR) but opened and treated as new land applications.

Land and Survey Department Director Datuk Osman Jamal said the limit of the NCR claim has been effected by Section 5, 6(1) and 88 of the Sabah Land Ordinance (SLO), whose meaning many parties have wrongly defined.

"In these three sections beginning December 13, 1930, Government land and reserves in this State will be handed its full rights to the government.

Special unit on NCR land soon

KOTA KINABALU September 26, 2012: A special unit, the first of its kind in the country, will be set up soon as part of the Sabah Land and Survey Department’s outreach programme for rural and interior folk in the state.

Dubbed the ‘Unit Pantas NCR’, or Native Customary Rights Fast Unit, it is expected to be officially launched in November.

“We realise the problems faced by the rural and interior folk who have to come to our office to settle land matters, which sometimes take days. It means costs for them to travel all the way from the village to the city. So instead of them coming to us, we will go out and meet them. This will save them a lot of time and money,”

TAWAU 19 Sept. - Jabatan Kastam Diraja Malaysia sudah bersedia menguruskan sistem percukaian Cukai Barangan dan Perkhidmatan (GST) sekiranya kerajaan memutuskan untuk melaksanakannya di negara ini.

Ketua Pengarahnya, Datuk Khazali Ahmad berkata, jabatan itu diberi tanggungjawab mentadbir pelaksanaan GST dan sehubungan itu persiapan awal perlu dilakukan.

KOTA KINABALU 17 September 2012: BEGINNING next year, housemen will also be posted at hospitals in Keningau and Lahad Datu districts, besides the major towns in Sabah.

Sabah Health director Dr Mohd Yusof Ibrahim said this move was aimed at addressing the issue of staff shortage at the hospitals.

"Although the Health Ministry gives an extra RM1,500 incentive to staff who work in rural areas, only a small number of people are willing to serve there.

"If I issue transfer letters to staff members now, I will get back 20 letters rejecting them,"

ONLY 27 DAYS TO PROCESS CONSTRUCTION PERMITS

Only 27 days to process construction permits

Kota Kinabalu September 07, 2012: The length of the application process for construction permits is being shortened from 140 days to 27 days, said Senior Director of Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) AB Rahim Yusoff.

This, according to him, was conducted with cooperation from MPC, Kuala Lumpur City Hall and technical agencies under a One Stop Centre (OSC) through a project called Regulatory Review which will also be continued here in Sabah.

"MPC will cooperate with relevant agencies to conduct the Regulatory Review project on dealing with construction permits in Sabah,"

KOTA KINABALU August 31, 2012: Jabatan Imigresen memperkenalkan program 3+1 bagi mengatasi masalah kebanjiran pendatang tanpa izin (PTI) di negeri ini.

Pengarahnya, Mohammad Mentek  berkata di bawah program itu, semua permohonan yang melibatkan PTI akan dikenakan kompaun sebanyak RM300 dan pas khas (RM100), dan majikan dibenarkan untuk memohon Journey Perfomed Visa (JP Visa) dengan bayaran RM500 tertakluk pada kelulusan.

“Sehingga ke hari ini, masih terdapat rayuan daripada pihak majikan terutamanya dari sektor perladangan dan pertanian untuk mengambil pekerja asing mereka sedangkan fasa pendaftaran pemutihan bagi kedua-dua sektor itu telah tamat pada 1 Julai lepas,” katanya.

State Education Director, Datuk Dr Muhiddin Yusin, said now is a crucial time for teachers in examination classes to complete the syllabus, and students themselves must start revising their lessons.

Expressing concern, he said while students may be fully prepared in terms of being equipped with knowledge, some may not be ready to face the examination, mentally or emotionally.

Imigresen anggar kutipan hasil RM200 juta tahun ini

KOTA KINABALU July 15, 2012: Jabatan Imigresen menganggarkan kutipan hasil sehingga RM200 juta menerusi pelbagai aktiviti pada tahun ini.

Menurut Pengarahnya, Mohammad Mentek, menerusi kutipan-kutipan berkenaan, ianya mampu membantu kerajaan dari segenap segi khususnya aktiviti pembikinan pasport, visa, levi, proses Pas Lawatan Kerja Sementara (PLKS) dan denda serta hukuman.

Berdasarkan statistik pada tahun lepas, pihaknya telah berjaya mengutip lebih RM177 juta hasil daripada pelbagai punca dan kutipan berbanding tahun sebelumnya iaitu sekitar RM120 juta sahaja.

“Kutipan yang paling tinggi pula berpunca daripada hasil levi iaitu lebih RM100 juta untuk tahun lalu,” katanya.
