Sabah became the vision of the last gold coin that could win back the possibility of rising again, getting back the worth of a name: the venerable House of Kiram.

23/03/2013: The Sabah claim will continue to be raised by the Phlippines and Sulu as it is powerful and emotive international issue which many leaders from Manila will find convenient to bleed for political mileage. And the many “sultans” in Sulu will continue to cast their hungry eyes at Sabah, considered to be “the last gold coin” and aspire, albeit hopelessly, to try and achieve the impossible.

But Malaysians, especially Sabahans, should be able to give a cogent argument on the issue of this claim and in favour of Sabah.

KOTA KINABALU 13/03/2013- Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) akan menubuhkan sebuah pusat penyelidikan yang berfungsi sebagai pusat rujukan berkaitan hal ehwal negeri Sabah termasuk aspek keselamatan.

Naib Canselor UMS Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Harun Abdullah berkata cadangan penubuhan pusat tersebut tercetus atas keprihatinan UMS terhadap isu-isu semasa seperti insiden pencerobohan pengganas di Lahad Datu dan Semporna.

Katanya pusat yang dinamakan Pusat Kajian Strategik Sabah akan menumpukan skop kajian yang merangkumi sejarah dan kedaulatan negeri Sabah selain aspek perundangan, keselamatan dan hubungan antarabangsa.

The Malaysian Bar is extremely concerned by reports of the armed intrusion by foreign elements and ongoing conflict in the areas of Lahad Datu and Semporna, in Sabah.  We are deeply saddened by the deaths of eight Malaysian police personnel¹, and extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to their families and loved ones.  We salute our fallen heroes who have paid the highest price in defence of our nation and territory.   Our thoughts and prayers also go to members of our security forces who are now in the frontline of this conflict. 

The Malaysian Bar expresses its support for the Malaysian authorities in its continuing efforts to restore law and order in the affected areas.  As an independent nation, Malaysia has a sovereign right to ensure recognition and respect for the territorial integrity of its international borders.  As the conflict continues, we call on all parties to take all necessary action to minimise any further injury and loss of life.

KOTA KINABALU September 14, 2012: Effort should be taken to incorporate more of Sabah’s history and culture into the national education system, said Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.

He said this is to promote better understanding among other Malaysians and help address racial issues that stem from lack of understanding of Sabah’s culture among other Malaysians.

Masidi, who is also Sabah education exco, said the most recent controversy involving a blogger describing the Sumazau as a cult and worship dance was a saddening reminder of reality that many outside Sabah were completely ignorant about the State’s culture and tradition.

“Although we have been in the same country for almost 50 years, many people in other parts of this great nation don’t even understand our culture,”

KOTA KINABALU August 9, 2012: The Institute of Professional Development (IPD), Open University Malaysia in collaboration with the Malaysia Institute of Estate Agents (MIEA) commenced the professional diploma course in estate agency at OUM campus in Lintas Jaya Centre here.

Twenty-eight students, mainly working professionals, practising property negotiators and school leavers enrolled for the course and began the part-time classes on schedule.

The diploma course is of one-year duration. Upon successful completion of the set modules prescribed by the Board of Valuers, Appraisers and Estate Agents (BOVAE), students will be awarded the Professional Diploma in Estate Agency from IPD, OUM and MIEA.

They can also attempt the Estate Agent Examination conducted by BOVAE to become qualified and registered estate agents.

UPKO was dissolved by a combination of many factors.

July 22, 2012: The first, and probably the most important was the defection of first echelon Upko leaders, like elected Assemblymen, followed by second and third echelons like divisional heads, native chiefs and ketua kampongs.

The second was the apparent partiality on the part of Federal (Umno) leaders towards the Usno party and Tun Mustapha its president.

Evidence of this partiality to Usno was the fact that although Mustapha was appointed the first Head of State, which the post should be above politics, he was nevertheless allowed to head Usno as its president.

KOTA KINABALU July 12, 2012: Sabahans who aspire to become qualified real estate agents can now register for the Professional Diploma in Estate Agency programme offered by Open University Malaysia (OUM) in collaboration with the Malaysian Institute of Estate Agents (MIEA).

The first one-year diploma course to be offered in the field of real estate in Sabah, will require the participants to complete 12 papers in order for them to become registered estate agents.

KOTA KINABALU 6th July, 2012: A total of 32 Sabah companies were invited for a vendor hands-on training held by Petronas here from June 25 to 28, 2012.

The programme, organised by the Licensing & Registration Section of Petronas’ Group Supply Chain & Management, aimed to equip its Sabah vendors with the knowledge and know-how on Petronas’ new licensing and registration system as well as the other modules within it.

The training, which was held at Menara Petronas here, was conducted in two sessions; the first was the “procure-to-pay” (PTP) session on June 25 and 26, and the licensing and registration session on June 27 and 28.

Deputy Natural Resources and Environment Minister Tan Sri Joseph Kurup, for instance, described the interpretation of the document by Datu Tigabelas as “too shallow” and “should not be taken as correct, and should be ignored”.

Tigabelas touches a raw nerve

KUCHING June 13, 2012: Former Sabah Archives director Datuk Datu Tigabelas Datu Zainal Abidin upset Sabahans and Sarawakians when he said in a statement on Monday that the 20-point and 18-point agreements for the two states to form Malaysia was a memorandum of conditions and not an agreement.

A memorandum is not only inferior to an agreement but might not have legal binding effect.

70% OF GRADUATES LET DOWN BY POOR ENGLISH

70% of graduates let down by poor English

KOTA KINABALU June 9, 2012: Seventy per cent of Malaysian graduates are having a hard time seeking jobs in the private sector due to poor command of English, according to Tourism, Environment and Culture Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.

Citing his past work experience with a multinational company in Peninsular Malaysia, Masidi said 70 per cent of interviewees did not make it through the second round as they could not converse well in English.

“I suggest the graduates take the initiative to learn other languages, particularly English,” he said when officiating at the opening of Global English Centre Sdn Bhd at Plaza Kingfisher here yesterday.
