Kuala Lumpur 30/11/2012: PETRONAS semalam menafikan tuduhan mereka ada berhutang royalti minyak kepada beberapa negeri.
Presiden dan Ketua Eksekutifnya, Tan Sri Shamsul Azhar Abbas, berkata isu bayaran royalti minyak kepada negeri pengeluar sumber itu terletak kepada kerajaan persekutuan.
“Sebagai sebuah syarikat, tanggungjawab kami adalah menguruskan sumber tenaga dan bukannya menyebarkan kekayaan,”
Legal action threat over oil, gas rights
KOTA KINABALU 20/10/2012: State Reform Party (Star) Sabah is giving the State Government six weeks to restore ownership rights of Sabah’s oil and gas resources, or the people would proceed with legal action, according to its chairman Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.
He told a press conference at TNGC Beverly Hills yesterday that Petronas missed the point when it acted as if it was the sole custodian of Malaysia’s oil and gas.
‘Govt should decide on oil royalty, not Petronas’
PENAMPANG 13/10/2012: A local community leader has expressed his disappointment over Petronas’ statement with regards to the higher oil royalty payment to oil producing states in the country.
Jeoffrey Ekol, a member of UPKO, said that he was also perplexed by Petronas’ statement that it is against higher oil royalty to oil producing states.
Not single Sabahan on Petronas BOD

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 7 ― Petronas, previously described as Putrajaya’s “piggy bank”, said today it will pay the government RM30 billion in dividends this year despite falling profits and a challenging outlook.
The amount will likely make up more than a third of the state oil company’s net profit, after it said today that it may struggle to hit RM90 billion in pre-tax profit for the year.
Petronas chief executive Tan Sri Shamsul Azhar Abbas said, however, that there is an understanding with the Ministry of Finance that dividends will be capped at 30 per cent of profit starting next year.

Petronas mahu menghentikan pembayaran subsidi gas, malah sejak tahun lepas, Petronas mahu membayar dividen yang lebih rendah!
Adakah Petronas seperti si Tanggang? Hasil wang minyak dan gas adalah milik rakyat dan juga amanah kerajaan.
Sabahans have right to know political history – Jeffrey
LABUAN July 18, 2012: State Reform Party (Star) chairman Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said the people of Sabah have every right to know the political background and history which led the then North Borneo to agree to join the Federation of Malaya, Singapore and Sarawak to form Malaysia on September 16, 1963.
He maintained that the date was significant as two other independent countries, namely Sarawak and Singapore, agreed to join Sabah and the Federation of Malaya to be united as partners under a new independent country known as Malaysia.
Jeffrey said this when launching the party’s Labuan division on Monday.
“We had been sweet-talked by the leaders from Kuala Lumpur who offered us sweet promises into believing that Sabah would be an equal partner in the new country and would share the wealth fairly.
“The real fact was we have already gained independence from the British earlier before we were colonized by the leaders from Kuala Lumpur,” he said.
Jeffrey claimed that the political game in Malaysia was being played and masterminded by Malaya and after the agreement to form the federal government was made, Malaya ‘kicked out’ one of its partners, Singapore, without even referring the matter to Sabah and Sarawak.
“After they ‘dumped’ Singapore out, they manipulated Sabah and Sarawak in order to gain the two-thirds majority in parliament before successfully downgrading the status of Sabah and Sarawak from a country to one of the states within the federation.
“Later, all the 20 points which formed part of the basis for Sabah to form Malaysia were thrown into the garbage bin and none of the points has been given to Sabah until now,” he said, adding that the name Malaysia has been used to colonise both Sabah and Sarawak.
Jeffrey also touched on the oil royalty agreement which caused the first chief minister of Sabah, Tun Fuad Stephens to be toppled when he refused to sign the agreement giving Sabah a five per cent royalty from its oil resources.
“What most of us did not know is the five per cent was not an oil royalty agreement rather than a compensation for our oil and gas to be ‘handled’ by the newly set up Petronas back in 1974.
“In the agreement it is also stated that we could never claim for oil royalty. So, there is no oil royalty for us. Is it a fair agreement for Sabah?
“After Kuala Lumpur appointed Tun Mustapha as the new chief minister, he too refused to sign the agreement,” he said.
The agreement was finally signed by the new leader favoured by Kuala Lumpur, after both Tun Fuad and Tun Mustapha were toppled.
The first chief minister of Sarawak, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan shared the same fate of the two Sabah chief ministers when he disagreed to sign the agreement.
Jeffrey said that the five per cent for Sabah and Sarawak was solely made by Kuala Lumpur.
“It is not fair that we are only given five percent and the other 95 percent goes to Petronas. We should be given at least 50 per cent oil royalty as the oil and gas are located within Sabah region,” he said.
Jeffrey said that the party would insist for the oil agreement to be re-looked into for justice to be incorporated into the agreement.
“We want the agreement to be rescinded and enter into a new one,” he said.
Touching on cabotage, Jeffrey also wanted it to be cancelled, as it is a cruel policy which incurs the cost of living in Sabah to rise by 40 per cent and to affect the livelihood of every Sabahan.
“Cabotage has made it costly for investors to invest in Sabah,” he said.
Jeffrey expressed his wish for Labuan to be an independent state and the island is still well remembered as being part of Sabah.
He maintained that Labuan should have two or three parliamentary seats and no less than three state seats.

Petronas organises vendor hands-on training
KOTA KINABALU 6th July, 2012: A total of 32 Sabah companies were invited for a vendor hands-on training held by Petronas here from June 25 to 28, 2012.
The programme, organised by the Licensing & Registration Section of Petronas’ Group Supply Chain & Management, aimed to equip its Sabah vendors with the knowledge and know-how on Petronas’ new licensing and registration system as well as the other modules within it.
The training, which was held at Menara Petronas here, was conducted in two sessions; the first was the “procure-to-pay” (PTP) session on June 25 and 26, and the licensing and registration session on June 27 and 28.

Petronas Rapid to draw RM120b investments

KOTA TINGGI 14 May 2012: THE Petronas Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (Rapid) project in Pengerang is expected to draw RM120 billion in investments during the next five to six years.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the complex had recently also drawn the interest of a Taiwan-based petrochemical company, which is conducting an investment study to build an integrated oil and petrochemical complex to complement the Petronas Rapid project.

April 22, 2012: Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Anifah Aman proposed that Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) set up a branch campus here to meet the needs of the growing oil and gas industry in the State.
He said a 600-acre site in Mandahan would be ideal to set up the university as it is close to the Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal (SOGT) here.
"The 600-acre land was initially kept aside to build a bigger Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA), but later this was not carried out as the State Government decided to further develop the present KKIA into a bigger airport É which we are seeing now.
"Hence, I see there is a huge potential to develop the land for education purposes not only for Kimanis residents but also for the State as well as the country."

Pengurus Besar Petronas Pejabat Wilayah Sabah dan Wilayah Persekutuan Labuan, Joseph Podtung berkata rekod Petronas sejak tahun 2009 hingga 2011 menunjukkan lebih kurang 70 kontrak yang bernilai lebih daripada RM900 juta telah dilaksanakan oleh syarikat-syarikat tempatan di Sabah.
Katanya, kontrak pembinaan Pusat Latihan Petroleum Kimanis (KTC) juga akan diberikan kepada syarikat tempatan untuk melaksanakan pembinaan itu.
Sabah’s opposition divided over oil
January 26, 2012: The oil royalty issue took centre stage during Chinese New Year, with Anwar pledging 20 percent if Pakatan comes to power, Jeffrey demanding 50 percent while there also those pushing for 70 percent.
Jeffrey’s State Reform Party (STAR) wants a hike in the present measly five percent oil royalty to 50 percent, covering both the inner and outer waters. More on this in a while.
Earlier, just before Chinese New Year, the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) revealed its economic plan which, among others, held out without much hope for a 20 percent oil royalty. The party’s other ideas for the oil and gas resources are to try and squeeze export duties, excise, and land taxes.

TNB, Petronas, Government To Bear Equally Fuel Cost Increase
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 1 (Bernama) -- Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has received a letter from the government that provides a fuel cost-sharing mechanism to address the current increased cost borne by the company due to the gas shortage.
In a filing to Bursa Malaysia Thursday, TNB said it, Petroliam Nasional Bhd and the government would each equally share the differential cost it incurred due to dispatching on alternative fuels and also imports, from Jan 1, 2010 until Oct 31, 2011 of approximately RM3.07 billion.
KOTA KINABALU, 23 Nov (Bernama) -- Petronas diminta memberi penjelasan terperinci dan telus berhubung rasional di sebalik keputusannya menghantar dan menyalurkan gas dari Terminal Minyak dan Gas Sabah (SOGT) ke Kompleks Cecair Gas Asli (LNG) Petronas di Bintulu, Sarawak.
Anggota Dewan Undangan Negeri kawasan Pantai Manis Datuk Abdul Rahim Ismail berkata Rabu penjelasan itu penting bagi melenyapkan kekeliruan berhubung pelaksanaan projek itu.
"Mungkin ada segelintir pihak memahami rasionalnya, namun saya bimbang golongan majoriti yang tidak memahaminya dan kita tidak mahu ada pihak-pihak tertentu yang cuba mengeksploitasi isu itu untuk tujuan tertentu, katanya ketika membahaskan Belanjawan Sabah 2012 pada persidangan Dewan Undangan Negeri, di sini hari ini.
Petronas Carigali Temui Minyak Di Luar Pantai Sabah
KUALA LUMPUR Nov 15, 2011: Cabang eksplorasi dan pengeluaran Petronas, Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, telah menemui jumlah minyak yang signifikan di luar pantai Sabah.
Dalam satu kenyataan hari ini, Petronas berkata penemuan itu dilakukan di telaga Wakid-1 di dalam Blok 2G-2J, kira-kira 100km di timur laut Kota Kinabalu.
Telaga itu digerudi pada 30 Mei, 2011 dan selesai pada 4 Julai, 2011.
Petronas berkata ia mencapai ketinggian vertikal 3,330m dan mengesahkan kehadiran minyak yang signifikan dan kewujudkan takungan gas.
"Tiga ujian pengeluaran dilaksanakan di tiga takungan berlainan yang mengalirkan minyak pada kadar maksimum disatukan 8,200 tong sehari.
License freeze, Sabah O&G contractors in the cold
It's ironic that Petronas' RM45 billion O&G project in Sabah may not have local contractors' participation.

Chamber urges Petronas to lift licence freeze
KOTA KINABALU Nov 4, 2011: A call was made to lift the freeze on upstream oil and gas industry licences to allow Sabah-based contractors to bid for projects next year.
Malay Chamber of Commerce Sabah president Datuk Awang Buhtaman Awang Mahmun in making the call, said the recent announcement by Petronas on the RM45 billion mega project in Sabah had created a lot of interests among local contractors who were willing to grab the opportunity and be part of it.
He said the suspension was announced through an official letter from Petronas, with the reason of upgrading their database.
“But the suspension to renew licenses will not allow us to be part of the project. We are expecting a lot of invitations to bid next January but since our licenses are not renewed, which is part of the requirement, we will not be able to take part,” he said.
