Sabah’s oil curse strikes again

Poverty-riddled Sabah is the sixth biggest contributor to the national economy, contributing more than a quarter of the total oil and gas produced in the country.

KOTA KINABALU 12/11/2012: Sabah lost control of its oil wealth more than 30 years ago but the fallout of the widely acknowledged cock-eyed contract is continuing to roil business dealings in the state.

The state Barisan Nasional government is now facing more questions over how it is managing the Petronas-sponsored Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal (SOGT) project that began more than a year ago.

Association president threatened for being vocal

KOTA KINABALU August 21, 2012: Sabah Oil and Gas Contractors Association (SOGCA) president Datuk Iskandar Malik has received threatening text messages for being vocal on issues at the Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal (SOGT) project in Kimanis.

“I was just doing my part to report what I felt was not right. Some people were not happy with me and sent me a few text messages, calling me names and wanting me to stop talking.

Sogca welcomes Petronas CSR aid to needy Sabahans

KOTA KINABALU 2nd Nov 2011: Sabah Oil & Gas Contractors Association (Sogca) yesterday commended Petronas for giving aid to some 1,200 underprivileged families in Sabah under its corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Sogca president Datuk Iskandar Datuk Malik said he believed that Petronas will do more to help the needy in Sabah under its CSR.

Forum to explore potential of Sabah's oil and gas

Kota Kinabalu Oct 20, 2011: The potential of Sabah's oil and gas industry will be explored during a forum organised by the Sabah Oil and Gas Contractors Association (Sogca).

Its President Datuk Iskandar Abdul Malik said the industry's key leaders and stakeholders are expected to attend the forum on Nov 3-4.

He said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman is expected to officiate at the event.

KOTA KINABALU 7th October, 2011: Sabah firms are set to be awarded contracts worth some RM600 million in the US$1.5 billion Sabah Ammonia-Urea (Samur) Plant project owned by Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd in Sipitang.

CM reminds Petronas to honour obligations to Sabah

image Kota Kinabalu October 05, 2011 : Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman on Monday again reiterated his call to the national oil company, Petronas, to provide adequate opportunities to eligible locals in Sabah to participate directly in the oil and gas industry.

He also urged the company and all parties concerned to ensure the locals here obtain contracting jobs with it.

"But most importantly, Petronas and parties concerned create employment opportunities and economic spinoffs for the people of Sabah," he told the media after a meeting with Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (Sedia) at Le Meridien.

SEC leaves decision on lead role to State Govt

Kota Kinabalu September 15, 2011: Sabah Energy Corporation Sdn Bhd (SEC) is leaving it to the State Government to decide which of its agencies or government-linked companies is to take the lead role in the State's oil and gas industry.

image Its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Datuk Harun Haji Ismail said it is the State Government and Chief Minister's prerogative to decide on this, although the corporation is ready if asked to shoulder the responsibility.

"We are always ready actually. SEC, and I believe the other state agencies and GLCs, are ready if entrusted to take the lead or become a focal point in the State's oil and gas business É we have the capabilities, so I think there is no problem,"

More oil, gas industries needed to attract Sabahans back

KOTA KINABALU August 31, 2011: There is a need to set up more oil and gas related industries here in an effort to attract skilled Sabahans to return home and work.

Sabah Oil and Gas Contractors Association president Datuk Iskandar Malik in making the call, disclosed that a lot of skilled manpower from Sabah refused to return home due to the lack of job opportunities in their homeland.

“We do have demand for skilled manpower with the current development of oil and gas in the state, but it is not enough to attract them to return home. They are worried that after a couple of years, there may be out of job.
