RCI MUST BE BACKED BY COMMITTED POLICY

‘RCI must be backed by committed policy’

KOTA KINABALU Jan 4, 2012: The setting up of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) must also be backed up by a committed policy to solve the issue of illegal immigrants and Project IC in Sabah.

Federation of Sabah Manufacturers (FSM) president Datuk Seri Panglima Wong Khen Thau is in favour of the setting up of an RCI, as he pointed out that the issue has been longstanding in the state.

Although RCI alone cannot resolve the issue completely, Wong said it was one of the ways to obtain a clear picture of what had happened, and whether Project IC existed.

“Maybe it is good that the government clears their stand because people might think something is going on. If nothing happened, what’s wrong with an RCI?” he said when contacted yesterday, adding that the issue was related to the unity of the people as well.

Nonetheless, he stressed that a long-term definite and committed policy should be in place to tackle the issue of foreign workers and illegal immigrants.

IF IT CAN BE DONE IN 1965, WHY NOT IN 2012?

All illegal immigrants and the descendants in Sabah must be removed from the Electoral Rolls, the state assembly, Parliament and the Government sector including GLCs and have their scholarships terminated and withdrawn.

• The first generation of illegal immigrants can have their Malaysian papers, obtained by misrepresentation and fraud, replaced with Special Passes;
• the 2nd generation with temporary residence;
• and the 3rd and subsequent generations with permanent residence. Each of them should also be fined no less than RM 500.00 with 70 per cent of the amount, or RM 350.00, going to the state government’s coffers.
