KENINGAU 11 Dis. - Anggota Ikatan Relawan Rakyat Malaysia (Rela) mampu membantu Jawatankuasa Suruhanjaya Siasatan Diraja (RCI) menangani masalah pendatang asing tanpa izin (PATI) di Sabah.

KOTA KINABALU 30/11/2012: Angkatan Perubahan Sabah (APS) deputy president Datuk Maijol Mahap has urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the death of 15-year-old Norikoh Saliwa whose body was found by the roadside in Kota Marudu early this week.

“I hope the police will make a thorough investigation on the case and will not leave any stones unturned. We want to know whether she was indeed raped and murdered. If she was, who did it?

“We in Kota Marudu want justice and we want the culprit to be brought to justice. We know justice can’t return the life of the girl, but at least the culprit is brought to justice and be sentenced,”

Jimmy issues a challenge on oil royalty

KOTA KINABALU 20/12/2012: An opposition leader challenged Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman at the State Legislative Assembly sitting yesterday to show the courage to ask for an increase in the state’s oil royalty to at least 20 percent.

Sri Tanjung assemblyman Jimmy Wong said there was no use ‘scolding’ the opposition for asking the 15 percent increase from the existing five per cent oil royalty.

“The oil royalty must give justice to everyone, this is a free gift from God, so every person must have a fair share.”

KOTA MARUDU August 13, 2012: Senator Datuk Maijol Mahap, who officially quit from United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (UPKO) last week, yesterday joined the Sabah opposition front.

The UPKO vice-president formally confirmed his decision to leave the Barisan Nasional at a function held at his house in Kampung Kokobuan here yesterday afternoon.

Maijol followed in the footsteps of UPKO deputy president and Tuaran member of parliament Datuk Seri Wilfred Mojilip Bumburing and Beaufort member of parliament Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin who quit BN on July 29.

He gave the same reasons as Bumburing and Lajim for leaving BN.

KOTA KINABALU July 23, 2012: Senator Datuk Paul Kong has called for the setting up of a special task force looking into the relocation of those living in water villages in the city and its surrounding areas.

According to Kong, the relocation of these residents must be done within 10 years so that a massive and concerted clean-up effort can be carried out in the state capital.

Kong was debating the Environmental Quality (Amendment) Bill 2012 which was presented by Tan Sri Joseph Kurup in the Dewan Negara last week.

Kong was of the opinion that the problems and damage to the sea and environment in the state capital were caused by the inhabitants of water villages which have mushroomed in Pulau Gaya, Sembulan, Tanjung Aru, Likas, Putatan and Kinarut over the past 40 years or so.

“They have turned our sea within the ‘nature city’ Kota Kinabalu into rubbish dump, toilets and bathrooms. These water villagers are also an eyesore to people visiting the state.

KOTA KINABALU July 19, 2012: The cabotage policy is not the sole factor contributing to the high price of goods in Sabah and Sarawak, according to Transport Minister Datuk Kong Chor Har.

He was replying to points raised by Senator Datuk Paul Kong Sing Chu at the Dewan Negara recently, citing logistics and freight costs, land transportation cost and infrastructure facilities, as factors leading to the higher prices of goods in the two Borneo states.

Kong, who is also Sabah MCA deputy liaison head, had asked the minister when cabotage would be nullified so that the ’1Nation, 1Price’ goal could be achieved.

“I urge the government to quickly find a way to resolve the vast price differences between Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah/Sarawak with the aim to achieve one-nation-one-price ‘dream,” Kong said.

KOTA KINABALU 17th July, 2012: Tourist arrivals in Sabah for the first five months this year went up 3.7 per cent in comparison to the same period last year.

Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Masidi Manjun, said during the same period this year, a total of 1,134,149 visitors came to Sabah, generating an estimated revenue of RM2.02 billion. Last year 1,093,578 arrived between January and May.

The most significant increase was tourists from China, including Hong Kong and Macau, that numbered at 71,152 or 41.4 per cent more than last year.

15,390 CIVIL SERVANTS FROM PENINSULA IN SABAH

KOTA KINABALU July 17, 2012: As many as 15,390 public service officers and staff from Peninsular Malaysia are currently working in 94 federal departments and 42 statutory bodies in the state.

Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department, Datuk Radin Malleh said the department with the biggest number of these individuals was the Sabah Education Department with 8,152 last year.

Radin said on average, 7,500 to 8,500 civil servants from the peninsula were sent to Sabah each year, for the last five years.

KOTA KINABALU July 13, 2012: The Federal Government has been urged to investigate and find out the reasons for the shoddy work on the RM565 million Sapulut-Kalabakan road project.

When the project was completed, the 179km road should have been sealed but instead, it was still a gravel road, prompting the Federal Government had to spend another RM270 million to have the stretch sealed, he said.

“What is even more worrying is the rumours that four elected representatives benefited from the contract,” he said when debating the Supplementary Supply Bill at Dewan Negara recently.

KOTA KINABALU July 11, 2012: Based on the household income survey by the national Statistics Department 2009, the poverty level in Sabah has dropped from 24.2 per cent in 2004 to 19.7 per cent in 2009.

The poverty rate in all divisions except Sandakan also showed a decrease in the same period, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop said in reply to Senator Maijol Mahap’s question in the Dewan Negara two days ago.

Students risk their lives on Inanam bridger

INANAM June 19, 2012: SK Kionsom students are risking their lives crossing Sungai Inanam using the suspension bridge near the village mini community hall at Kg Kionsom.

Village Development and Security Committee chairman, Pan Su Khiong said the students and people have no other alternative but to use the bridge, which is no longer fit for use, to get to and back from their school or to get to town.

"The only viable bridge, which is a concrete bridge located downriver is about to kilometre walk or drive to reach to school," Pan said to Daily Express.
