Jabatan Kesihatan Sabah diminta jalankan siasatan terperinci

KOTA KINABALU 27/12/2012: Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Sabah diminta untuk menjalankan siasatan terperinci berhubung berikutan insiden yang berlaku di hospital Lahad Datu, dimana pesakit warga tua telah dibekalkan ubat yang telah luput tempoh penggunaannya.

“Perkara seperti ini sepatutnya tidak akan berlaku dan ini harus dipandang serius oleh Jabatan berkenaan kerana ianya melibatkan kesihatan pengguna. Ubat yang digunakan selepas tarikh luput berkemungkinan besar bertukar menjadi bahan yang berbahaya yang boleh memudaratkan kepada kesihatan manusia,” kata Presiden Pertubuhan Hal Ehwal dan Perlindungan Pengguna Sabah (CAPS), James Baga .

KOTA KINABALU 20/12/2012: The Transport Ministry has refuted a statement by a company that the runway at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) is unsafe for aircraft landing and take-off as well as other airport operations.

It said that the Department of Civil Aviation, as the authority on airport standards, and airport operator Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, had confirmed that KKIA fulfilled the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation for airport operations.

“The KKIA runway is being continuously inspected and found to be in compliance with the standards, as well as ready and safe to be used for aircraft operations,” it said in a statement yesterday.

The ministry said that the Civil Aviation director-general advised the public not to be worried on the safety and security of KKIA.

KOTA KINABALU 20/12/2012: The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has come under fire from Sabah leaders over the shutdown of work by Global Upline Sdn Bhd (GUSB), the contractor of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) development.

Barisan Nasional (BN) Putatan member of parliament Datuk Dr Marcus Mojigoh was of the opinion that GUSB’s statement about the reason why it had stopped work on the airport expansion project proved that the Transport Ministry is irresponsible.

He was also worried about the safety aspects of the airport based on GUSB’s statement which read, ‘in the interest of safety to aircraft operation and passengers alike, we would like to inform the public that the runway is not safe for landing, take-off and other operation since it has been certified non-complete by MOT. The runway shall be forthwith closed for operation’.

Company stops works on KK International Airport

KOTA KINABALU 19/12/2012: Global Upline Sdn Bhd (GUSB) announced that it has stopped all works to develop the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) effective yesterday.

Its chief advisor, Tan Sri Ting Pek Khiing, said the Ministry of Transport (MOT) failed to fulfill its promise to issue a Certificate of Practical Completion (CPC) to GUSB upon completion of section one of the works in Package 2 of the project by April 30 this year.

This, he said, meant the runway was not safe for landing and take-off of aircraft as well as other operations on the runway since it had been certified non-complete by MOT and would be closed.

KOTA KINABALU 18/12/2012: The incidence of red tide in Papar, Tuaran, Tasik Sitompok (Kuala Penyu) and here is still at a worrying level.

Fisheries Department senior officer (head of the quality division), Boniface Jintony told The Borneo Post yesterday that the concentration of toxic algal blooms remained high at the affected areas.

“The incident began late November this year and has remained high,” he said.

He added that when the situation returns to normal, the department would issue another reminder to tell consumers that the red tide incident is over.

GOVT MULLS DEFERRING 30% AFFORDABLE HOUSING POLICY

Govt mulls deferring 30% affordable housing policy

KOTA KINABALU 16/12/2012: The Local Government and Housing Ministry will consider deferring the implementation of the newly announced policy of requiring 30 per cent affordable housing in every new development project next year, if there are still many unsold units of affordable houses.

Its minister, Datuk Hajiji Noor, said this in response to the statement by Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (Shareda), asking that the government reconsider the policy.

“We will see how many unsold affordable houses we have in Sabah. Our officers are now working on it and we will have the result soon.

“From the initial report, Shareda has said more than 5,000 affordable houses are still in the market, however, the ministry will check on the figures and will consider accordingly if it is found to be true,”

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 — Consumers in Malaysia are less optimistic this quarter, their confidence rattled by a belief that demand and investments may not be as resilient due to the slowing economy in Europe, North America and China, according to the latest global online consumer confidence findings from Nielsen, a global provider of information into what consumers watch and buy.

Malaysia’s consumer confidence fell six points in the index to 105 in the third quarter of 2012 from 111 three months ago, despite seeing its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growing by 5.4 per cent in the second quarter of the year and inflation at its slowest pace in September.

The decision was handed down by President of the Tribunal, Datuk Dr. Lawrence SH Thien, after hearing the complaint of the claimant, Selvina Kundian (the customer) in the absence of the vendor, V-Tec (computer repair centre).

Hospital patient hurt by falling concrete

KOTA KINABALU July 15, 2012: A piece of concrete fell from the ceiling and injured a patient at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH I) in Sembulan here yesterday.

The incident is said to have happened around 11am in one of the wards located on the ground floor.

It is also learnt that the fallen concrete hit the patient when he was warded with other patients, but the victim suffered only minor injury and was immediately given treatment.

TAWAU July 9, 2012: Member of parliament Datuk Chua Soon Bui has made a call for the federal government to subsidise the freight costs to reduce the prices of consumer goods in Sabah as well as to standardise them with those of Peninsular Malaysia.

Chua claimed that the issue had been highlighted numerous times in the past, but yet there has been neither any affirmative action nor solution to the problem in sight.

Meanwhile, the people in the state continue to suffer in silence for the high price of goods.

Chua said yesterday, “if the Federal government could afford to subsidise toll charges in the peninsula to the tune of billions of ringgits, there is no reason whatsoever why subsidising the high shipping cost of goods to Sabah cannot be implemented,” adding, that the costlier consumer goods in the state is directly attributable to the high shipping cost as a result of cabotage.
