Dispute over 6,000 acres time bomb for BN – Sukau assemblyman

23/10/2012: LONGSTANDING dispute over 6,000 acres of land in Sungai Koyah, Sukau could spell trouble for Barisan Nasional (BN) in the coming general elections, according to BN backbencher Datuk Saadi Abdul Rahman.

He said the villagers affected were beyond frustration after the authority concerned left them in the lurch for years, and may resort to giving their votes to the opposition if the government failed to intervene urgently to return their land.

Staggering dropout rate before SPM

KOTA KINABALU September 26, 2012: The Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad yesterday disclosed that a staggering number of youths had yet to attain their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) before they leave school.

“In public schools, between 2000 and 2010, we saw 500,000 pupils enrolling in Primary One annually. Out of that total, 8,000 left the education system before finishing their Primary Six studies, annually,” said Mohamad Kamal Haji Nawawi, general manager for Malaysian Talents Development of Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad.

“And between Form One and Form Five, out of the 400,000 students that enrolled in Form One, some 44,000 would leave school annually before completing their Form Five, or Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM),” he said.

Sekolah dan ibu bapa kini tidak perlu bimbang pelajar ponteng sekolah jika menggunakan produk Schooltrac yang akan mengirim maklumat pergerakan murid dan anak mereka menerusi khidmat pesanan ringkas (SMS) atau e-mel.

Menerusi sistem itu, murid akan dibekalkan dengan kad pelajar SchoolTrac menggunakan frekuensi radio yang mampu mengesan pergerakan keluar masuk murid melalui pagar sekolah ketika waktu persekolahan.

Ogos 8 2012: Kesatuan Perkhidmatan Perguruan Kebangsaan (NUTP) tidak menggalakkan sekolah bantuan penuh kerajaan menggunakan pelajarnya mengutip derma di luar kawasan sekolah.

Presidennya Hashim Adnan berkata NUTP melihat aktiviti itu sebagai mengundang bahaya kepada pelajar tanpa mengira peringkat usia.

"Kita tak nak nanti ada kes pelajar diculik atau dirogol," katanya kepada Bernama hari ini.

KOTA KINABALU July 22, 2012: Should students be allowed to bring hand phones to school? Members of the public who were asked to comment were divided on the matter.

Some, like Dr Harry Chong, a lecturer, was not against the idea but said the purpose of allowing students to bring hand phones to school should be to communicate with their parents.

He said a schedule must be fixed as to when the students are allowed to use the hand phone device and when they should switch it off.

Bintulu, Sarawak 18/07/2012: SERINGKALI masyarakat umum membuat andaian bahawa guru-guru yang berkhidmat di kawasan pedalaman Sarawak mewah kerana menerima pelbagai jenis imbuhan dan elaun.

Setiap kali berjumpa rakan-rakan guru di Semenanjung dan sesiapa sahaja yang mengetahui lokasi pekerjaan guru di pedalaman Sarawak pasti mereka akan berkata: "Mereka bergaji besar, elaun banyak, pastinya dapat mengumpul duit yang banyak..." Itulah saban kali ayat yang sering dilontarkan kepada kami.

Namun sejauh manakah kenyataan ini benar? Bagi kami guru-guru yang berkhidmat di kawasan pedalaman Sarawak dan yang mengalami sendiri pengalaman tersebut, nyata terasa betapa sukarnya untuk meneruskan kehidupan di sini.

KOTA KINABALU 16th May, 2012: The building of two schools, SK and SMK Pekan Telipok, will resume this year after two years.

State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun who also holds the education portfolio said the delay in the building of the schools was due to the failure of the contractor to get the project started after being given the work.

KENINGAU 11th May, 2012: Seramai lebih kurang 500 murid dan 45 guru Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sook kira-kira 30 kilometer dari sini terpaksa bertarung dengan hawa yang panas akibat ketiadaan bekalan elektrik di bangunan baru sekolah itu.

Yang Dipertua Persatuan Ibu Bapa dn Guru (PIBG) sekolah itu Rusinin Rasiman berkata, bangunan baru sekolah itu telah digunakan awal tahun ini dengan harapan ia memberi keselesaan kepada murid-murid dan guru-guru untuk menjalankan pengajaran dan pembelajaran.

Tetapi katanya, setelah empat bulan berlalu bekalan elektrik belum dapat disambung di sekolah itu menyebabkan murid-murid dan guru-guru menghadapi keadaan yang kurang selesa kerana terpaksa bertarung dengan hawa yang panas semasa pengajaran dan pembelajaran dijalankan dalam kelas.

KINABATANGAN May 4, 2012: Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Inarat yang terletak di pedalaman negeri Sabah telah ditutup hampir dua minggu ekoran ketiadaan guru di sekolah berkenaan.

Sehubungan itu, Ahli Parlimen Kinabatangan, Datuk Bung Moktar Radin meminta Kementerian Pelajaran dan Jabatan Pelajaran Sabah supaya melihat pelantikan guru-guru yang berasal dari Kampung Inarat itu sendiri untuk berkhidmat.

“Kampung ini memang terpencil dan sekiranya menggunakan kenderaan melalui jalan darat, mengambil masa tujuh hingga lapan jam perjalanan untuk sampai ke sana,” katanya kepada pemberita selepas mengadakan lawatan ke sekolah terbabit.

State Education Director, Datuk Dr Muhiddin Yusin said he had personally received complaints that some teachers were involved in political activities and attacking the policy of the government in view of the looming general elections.

Data Infrastruktur Sekolah Akan Diwujudkan - Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR April 21, 2012: Kementerian Pelajaran akan mewujudkan satu sistem data yang mengandungi maklumat berhubung keperluan infrastruktur di sekolah di seluruh negara tidak lama lagi untuk mewujudkan suasana kondusif bagi pelajar dan guru.

Timbalan Perdana Menteri yang juga Menteri Pelajaran, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin berkata, kementerian akan menggunakan data itu untuk memastikan aset yang dimiliki termasuk bangunan dan infrastruktur di sekolah sentiasa dipelihara (maintenance) dan untuk menilai kekurangan yang dihadapi oleh sekolah.

"Dengan cara ini kita boleh menilai kekurangan di sekolah dan kita akan tahu keadaan di sekolah berkenaan tanpa PIBG perlu mohon (untuk penambahbaikan infrastruktur) kerana data mengenai sekolah itu sudah ada di kementerian.

RANAU April 18, 2012: MASWings, through its Wings of Love program, allocated RM 20,000 to SMK Kemburongoh, recently.

Datuk Captain Nawawi Awang MASWings chief executive officer Datuk Captain Nawawi Awang selected SMK Kemburongoh as the first school in Sabah to be adopted under the Wings of Love program.

The allocation is for enhancing the performance of the school in education.

He said the program is part of their community program aimed to help SMK Kemburongoh create a conducive environment for students and ensured that they could be formed to be good leaders in the future.

Comfortable classrooms for Ranau school pupils ready in a week

RANAU April 11, 2012: Pupils of Sekolah Kebangsaan Togudon Lama will have comfortable learning environment after a project to build new classrooms for them are completed within a week.

SK Togudon Lama headmaster Johnny Ghani said the school, located some 48 kilometres from the town here, was set up as a Native Voluntary School in 1953.

“One of the classrooms, which was built in 1964, is still in use till today as we have very limited resources to set up new ones,” he said, adding that the project was well received by the parents as well as the teachers and pupils.

26 SCHOOLS DECLARED AS HAVING UNSAFE BUILDINGS

26 schools declared as having unsafe buildings

March 27, 2012: TWENTY-SIX schools have been officially declared as having unsafe buildings in Sabah since the year 2009.

Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun, who is also in charge of Sabah education affairs, said this was based on the Public Works Department report received by the State Education Department.

The school buildings were declared unsafe due to structural damages, he said in reply to Bingkor Assemblyman Datuk Justin Guka.

KOTA KINABALU: THE  putrid smell of peat soil permeates the air at SMK Ulu Sapi in Telupid as the midday sun glares in full force.

The distinctive foul sulphur-like smell comes from an adjacent site where a new primary school is being built on what used to be a swampy piece of land.
