Sabah’s oil curse strikes again
Poverty-riddled Sabah is the sixth biggest contributor to the national economy, contributing more than a quarter of the total oil and gas produced in the country.
The state Barisan Nasional government is now facing more questions over how it is managing the Petronas-sponsored Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal (SOGT) project that began more than a year ago.

LABUAN 14/10/2012: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) will consider a suggestion by Labuan Corporation to set up a faculty of oil and gas and shipping at its Labuan Campus.
“Oil and gas is an important field of studies and we will look into this matter including the facilities before we can open up the faculty at UMS, Labuan International Campus (UMS-KAL),” he said.
RM8.5bil new O&G storage facility to be undertaken by Halim Saad’s Armada
PETALING JAYA 2/10/2012: A new facility for oil and gas (O&G) storage and refining to be known as Sabah Oil Terminal, is being planned in Sipitang, Sabah at an estimated cost of RM8.5bil, sources said.The sources said that a 1,000-acre site at the Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial Park has been allocated for this development which would be undertaken by Armada Sdn Bhd beginning next year.

September 12, 2012: For decades, oil and gas (O&G) has been our country’s main revenue contributor. In the past, new discoveries propelled our oil production which peaked in the mid-1990s, whereas the recent high fuel prices resulted in good cash flow into the Malaysian treasury.
However, will oil which made Malaysia relatively wealthy continue to gush from our wells?
The stark reality is – the boom time for Malaysia – is over. Let me share the reasons why. Most if not all of the economically attractive fields have been found and developed. Our new discoveries are smaller, more technically demanding, and require more intensive capital investment.
Oil-rich Sabah still the poorest
Sarawak and Sabah have been giving away oil for decades yet both share the 'honour' of being poor states.
It is vital that the leaders go into these discussions with Putrajaya knowing the true facts of the agreement and the events leading up to how both states were “coerced” into signing the agreements.
If I recall correctly, Sarawak commenced its oil production in the early 1900s. Sabah has been producing oil for 30 years now.
Any Sabah oil royalty should be at least 20pc
They should and must be made accountable for their actions and decisions.
All the economic progressive countries in the world, without exception, have a 2-party system or in the case of more than 2 parties, a bi-partisan system like in UK. The bottom-line reality is that no political leaders, left to their own devises, can be trusted in the long run without a rigorous system to ensure their good behaviour.
Voters should be on "high alert" when they start to say "trust us, don't trust them" or "we are the best for you" without saying anything specific.
‘Musa making same mistake as Harris’

SABAH OFFERS CNG VIA VIRTUAL PIPELINE SYSTEM
KOTA KINABALU 20th July, 2012: Sabah has become the first state in Malaysia to supply compressed natural gas (CNG) via a virtual pipeline system.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman said the approach undertaken by Sabah Energy Corporation (SEC) would enable a wide spectrum of users to benefit from the project.
“It (project) is accessible to users who are located up to 70km fromSEC’s station at the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park.
“I believe SEC is also currently exploring the possibility of bringingCNG to the east coast of Sabah and the Sipitang area,”
Govt opens doors for foreign investors in oil and gas
Industrial Development Minister Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah said during a biennial dinner of the Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (ACEM) Sabah branch on Saturday evening that Petronas would not be the only investor in the sector in Sabah, adding that with more investors, more job opportunities for the people would be created.
He also said that the state would need to establish additional infrastructure to support the incoming investments.
Sabah’s unending development woes
SAPP says Sabah remains a poor state despite its abundant natural resources is because of the Barisan Nasional government.
Sabah Progressive Party, Liawan constituency liaison committee vice -chairman Joseph Wilfred Lakai, said the usual answer that “development plans are in the works” does not hold water.

Pembantu Menteri Kewangan, Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan berkata projek Terminal Penyimpanan Minyak Sabah (SOST) bakal memainkan peranan penting dalam menyediakan kemudahan penyimpanan sebahagian besar dalam sektor minyak dan gas di rantau ini.
Katanya, kemudahan penyimpanan itu juga menjadi pusat transit dalam mencapai pasaran minyak antarabangsa.
Petronas organises vendor hands-on training
The programme, organised by the Licensing & Registration Section of Petronas’ Group Supply Chain & Management, aimed to equip its Sabah vendors with the knowledge and know-how on Petronas’ new licensing and registration system as well as the other modules within it.
The training, which was held at Menara Petronas here, was conducted in two sessions; the first was the “procure-to-pay” (PTP) session on June 25 and 26, and the licensing and registration session on June 27 and 28.
MICCI wants enough gas for Sabah’s own devt
KOTA KINABALU July 4, 2012: Malaysia International Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) Sabah Branch wants the state government to continue pushing Petronas to ensure there is enough gas for Sabah’s own development.
“We strongly request the state government to urge Petronas to commit that in all its projects, the first opportunity is given to local consultants and qualified local companies so they will not end up being sub-contractors or sub, sub, sub contractors earning mere peanuts,” said MICCI Sabah Branch chairman, Datuk A Arulpragasam.

SapuraKencana becomes nation’s largest O&G player
KUCHING May 18, 2012: The listing of SapuraKencana Petroleum Bhd (SapuraKencana) on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia signifies the successful conclusion of the massive RM11.85 billion merger exercise of two Malaysian oil and gas (O&G) powerhouses, SapuraCrest Petroleum Bhd and Kencana Petroleum Bhd.
According to the company, the merger was initiated in July last year. The merger created Malaysia’s largest O&G service provider, which also ranked among the top five O&G service companies in the world by asset value.
Anger mounts over RM127b refinery for Johor

KOTA KINABALU May 17, 2012: Sabah State Reform Party (STAR) is blowing hot over the planned RM127 billion oil refinery in Johor, claiming it would be an “incalculable” economic loss to Sabah.
Describing the federal government’s decision as “unreasonable” STAR chairman Jeffrey Kitingan said: “If the federal government was sincere about developing the Borneo states which have contributed tremendously to the national coffer by giving 95% of its oil all these years, it would have decided to build the refinery in Sabah or Sarawak.
