Airport fulfils standards set by International Civil Aviation Organisation for operations – Ministry
KOTA KINABALU 20/12/2012: The Transport Ministry has refuted a statement by a company that the runway at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) is unsafe for aircraft landing and take-off as well as other airport operations.
It said that the Department of Civil Aviation, as the authority on airport standards, and airport operator Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, had confirmed that KKIA fulfilled the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation for airport operations.
“The KKIA runway is being continuously inspected and found to be in compliance with the standards, as well as ready and safe to be used for aircraft operations,” it said in a statement yesterday.
The ministry said that the Civil Aviation director-general advised the public not to be worried on the safety and security of KKIA.
Hiring best brains as teachers
SEREMBAN 10/11/2012: Teachers may soon be hired directly from the open market to get the best brains teaching in schools, said Education Service Commission chairman Tan Sri Zulkurnain Awang.
Other measures to improve the quality of teaching in schools included immediately retiring those with medical or disciplinary problems.
There are now some 408,000 teachers on the government’s payroll.
Zulkurnain added that the intake of trainee teachers would also be tightened to ensure only the most qualified were hired.
“We also need to address problems of teachers with disciplinary and prolonged medical and mental problems, including de-pression and see how they can be immediately removed from the system,”

LHDN Tegas Individu Pendapatan Bawah RM5,000 Tidak Dikenakan Cukai

Perplexed over ‘countryless’ Sabahans
KOTA KINABALU September 5, 2012: UPKO Citizenship and Security Bureau chief Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin has urged the National Registration Department (NRD) to consider setting up a special unit to handle citizenship cases involving Sabahans who were born in Brunei before 16 September 1963.
This will smoothen and expedite the processing of citizenship applications from these people by the NRD headquarters, he said.

Woman claims land lost to Land and Survey staff
KOTA KINABALU June 6, 2012: A 53-year-old Murut Paluan woman of Kampung Tiulon, Sook, yesterday alleged at the Suhakam public inquiry that she lost her ancestral land to three staff of the Land and Survey Department based in Keningau.
Timah Dipal, who was represented by her husband, Yunus Kimin, claimed that she had submitted her application for that piece of land since 1975 which had been passed down to her family by her ancestors.
'Transfer back Sabah teachers'
Kota Kinabalu May 20, 2012: Teachers should be posted to their states of origin with the aim of raising the standards of education in their own backyard.
Most of the participants especially educators and leaders of Parents and Teachers Associations (PTAs) made this suggestion at a dialogue on the National Education Blueprint 2012 at 1Borneo Hypermall, Saturday.
If adopted, they said the placement of teachers would enhance education performance as well as quality in the respective states as what had been proven in Terengganu.

Water tanks maintained before body found
TAWAU May 14, 2012: The nine water tanks at Taman Sri Titingan were maintained before the decomposing body of a man was found inside one of them on Saturday.
Tawau member of parliament Datuk Chua Soon Bui, who contacted the management of the 500 units of the People’s Housing Project (PPR) yesterday,was told that the maintenance people had monitored the water tanks for the past three days due to water rationing about one week ago.
She was informed that it was normal to make regular monitoring when water supply resumed due to the brown colour of the water in the tanks which was the cause of unclean water.
Fake documents of illegals confiscated
Keningau May 13, 2012: Federal Special Task Force for Sabah and Labuan (FSTF) said they are facing increasing numbers of illegal immigrants having many new kinds of false documents which were confiscated.

301 PTI ditahan dalam Ops Tanduk
KENINGAU May 13, 2012: Pasukan Petugas Khas Persekutuan (PPKP) bagi Sabah dan Labuan telah memeriksa dan menangkap 301 rakyat asing dalam Ops Tanduk yang dilancarkan di daerah ini selama dua hari, berakhir kelmarin.
Ketua Penolong Setiausaha PPKP, Asisten Komisioner Abdul Aziz Alwee, berkata daripada jumlah itu, 252 ditangkap pada operasi Jumaat dan 51 orang lagi kelmarin.

DNA centre for Sabah police by year end
KOTA KINABALU April 19, 2012: Sabah police are expected to have their own DNA centre by the end of this year, said Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib.
Hamza said the centre would be set up in stages at all police headquarters in the country.
“I have not received any instructions from Bukit Aman on the location where the DNA centre would be set up in Sabah.
“If forensic officers had made a visit to Tuaran district, then maybe the centre would be set up there,” he said after visiting Sabah Women and Children’s Hospital in Likas yesterday.
