Cancer patient turned away by 4 hospitals

images (4) Kota Kinabalu 23/12/2012: A patient suffering intermediate stage nasopharyngeal carcinoma (cancer of the nose) is feeling hopeless after having been turned away by at least four government hospitals in the country, including Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).

Lau King Ngiuk, 71, and members of the family were informed by QEH doctors on Dec. 19 that she could not be treated with radiotherapy because the computer facility for radiotherapy planning was out of order.

However, QEH referred the patient to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for treatment with the reason that the hospital's one and only treatment planning system had broken down. She was recommended to undergo concurrent chemoradiotherapy.

NEWTOWN (Connecticut) 16/12/2012: THREE teachers murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary School all died heroes trying to save their students from a gunman who they recognised as the son of a kindergarten teacher there.

Authorities have identified principal Dawn Hochsprung, 47, school psychologist Mary Sherlach, 56, and Victoria Soto, a young first-grade teacher, as three of the eight adults found dead on Friday.

SEREMBAN 29/11/2012- Kehabisan wang, terdesak, anak kelaparan serta hilang kawalan merupakan alasan yang dibuat seorang bekas pekerja kedai makan di Mahkamah Majistret di sini semalam ketika mengaku salah atas tuduhan menculik tiga kanak-kanak dan melarikan sebuah kereta dekat Senawang 22 November lalu.

Rose Azrool Mohd. Arshad, 34, dijatuhi hukuman penjara lima tahun lapan bulan atas kedua-dua kesalahan tersebut bermula dari tarikh tangkapan oleh Majistret Mohamad Izwan Mohamed Noh.

"Saya mengaku salah. Saya bertindak demikian kerana terdesak, kehabisan duit, anak di rumah kelaparan dan hilang kawalan. Saya mohon mahkamah meringankan hukuman,"

Pelajar maut ditembak bakakuk rakan sendiri

(GH) RANAU 12/10/2012: Seorang pelajar tingkatan empat terbunuh setelah terkena tembakan rakan sendiri ketika asyik memburu binatang di dalam hutan berhampiran Kampung Balisuk di sini.

Insiden kira-kira jam 10 malam itu, mangsa Albarth Oboth,16, yang merupakan pelajar Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Matupang Jaya itu mati serta merta di tempat kejadian.

Dikatakan, mangsa mengalami kecederaan parah di bahagian kepalanya akibat terkena bedilan senjata buatan sendiri yang juga dikenali sebagai ‘bakakuk’.

Staggering dropout rate before SPM

KOTA KINABALU September 26, 2012: The Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad yesterday disclosed that a staggering number of youths had yet to attain their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) before they leave school.

“In public schools, between 2000 and 2010, we saw 500,000 pupils enrolling in Primary One annually. Out of that total, 8,000 left the education system before finishing their Primary Six studies, annually,” said Mohamad Kamal Haji Nawawi, general manager for Malaysian Talents Development of Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad.

“And between Form One and Form Five, out of the 400,000 students that enrolled in Form One, some 44,000 would leave school annually before completing their Form Five, or Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM),” he said.

KOTA KINABALU 08 September 2012:  FIREMEN rushing to get to a fire scene in Kampung Mokodou, 60km from Ranau, yesterday had to turn back as their vehicle could not pass through a bailey bridge, the only access to the village, as  vehicles weighing five tonnes and above were not allowed to cross it.

With sirens blaring, they drove back to Ranau, got into a four-wheel drive and rushed back to the scene with six firefighters, only to be involved in the grim task of retrieving charred remains of three children in one of the two houses that were razed to the ground.

Mother drowns, son missing as boat hits rock

NABAWAN September 2, 2012: A wedding trip ended in tragedy when a mother drowned while her five-year-old son went missing when the boat they were travelling in crashed into a large rock in Logonggon River in the Pagalungan Sub-District here on Thursday night.

Disclosing the 8.20pm tragedy here yesterday, Keningau district police chief, DSP Robert Salisip @ David said it happened when the mother and son were among a family of seven adults and children from Kampung Salung on the way to Kampung Inaka in Pagalungan to attend a wedding.

“As they were travelling in the Logonggon River, the boat broke apart and sank after hitting a rock,”

BODY OF GIRL SWEPT AWAY BY WATER FOUND

Body of girl swept away by water found

KOTA KINABALU August 30, 2012: The body of the three-year-old girl who was reported missing after she and a 40-year-old man were swept away by swift current in Ranau, was found yesterday morning.

Elsey Charles’s remains was found around 8am yesterday near Kampung Kagasaran, about 40 meters from where she was reported missing.

Search effort is now being carried out for the second victim, identified as Marudin Limboy, 40, who was also reported missing in the 7pm incident on August 25.

Fire and Rescue Services Department public relations officer Mohd Affendy Ramin when contacted, said the victim’s body was found by villagers.

Girl, man swept away

RANAU 28 August 2012: A 3-year-old girl and a man went missing after their four-wheel-drive vehicle was swept away by strong currents at Sungai Kaingaran, near here, on Saturday.

During the 7pm incident, they were on their way to Kampung Kiawayan with seven other passengers.

The driver was trying to cross the river when it suddenly swelled.

He then lost control of the vehicle and it was dragged downstream by the waters.

A search has been launched for the missing two, identified as Elsey Charles, 3, and Marudin Limboy, 40.

Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Mohd Affendi Ramin said the other passengers managed to save themselves.

"The survivors were two men and five women, aged 15 to 60."

Kota Belud May 13, 2012: Some 500 residents in Kg Kiau Teburi, Kg Kiau Nulu and Kg Kiau Bersatu directly affected by the recent landslide there, have appealed for the public to provide them with candles.

Nabalu Natural Disaster Committee member, Sindih Taliban, said they are in desperate need of candles while waiting for their electricity supply - which had been totally cut off by the landslide - to be restored.

KINABATANGAN May 4, 2012: Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Inarat yang terletak di pedalaman negeri Sabah telah ditutup hampir dua minggu ekoran ketiadaan guru di sekolah berkenaan.

Sehubungan itu, Ahli Parlimen Kinabatangan, Datuk Bung Moktar Radin meminta Kementerian Pelajaran dan Jabatan Pelajaran Sabah supaya melihat pelantikan guru-guru yang berasal dari Kampung Inarat itu sendiri untuk berkhidmat.

“Kampung ini memang terpencil dan sekiranya menggunakan kenderaan melalui jalan darat, mengambil masa tujuh hingga lapan jam perjalanan untuk sampai ke sana,” katanya kepada pemberita selepas mengadakan lawatan ke sekolah terbabit.
