WHY NO SCHOOL IN SABAH WAS SELECTED FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE TRUST SCHOOL PIONEER PROJECT?

MP: Why was Sabah left out?

December 22, 2010 Kota Kinabalu: Ranau MP Datuk Siringan Gubat has asked the Education Ministry why no school in Sabah was selected for the implementation of the trust school pioneer project.

The project, part of the Government's moves to transform education through a government and private collaboration, has already been launched involving 10 schools in Sarawak and Johor.

Being implemented through Khazanah Malaysia Berhad, the pioneer project will be made a benchmark for its nationwide implementation in the near future.

Second Deputy Education Minister Dr Haji Mohd Puad Zarkashi was responding to a question in Parliament from Parit Sulong MP Datuk Noraini Ahmad on the implementation of trust schools when Siringan raised the question.

He asked if it was because the schools in Sabah are not qualified to take part in the pioneer project.

Dr Mohd Puad, in his response, said Sabah also qualified to be included in the trust school programme.

He explained that Khazanah Malaysia Berhad is the first private company involved in the programme and because its operations are more focused on Sarawak and Johor, it decided to only pick schools in both states.

But Dr Mohd Puad expressed confidence that Sabah will not be left out in the implementation of this project.

He had earlier explained that the trust school programme is meant to increase the quality of education at schools in line with the four initiatives under the education National Key Result Area (NKRA).
