The United Pasok Momogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko) has come in for praise for getting the Orang Asli to join the party recently.
"The Members of Parliament and Assemblymen of the areas are very happy that we are there.
"Because they say these people who joined us are without a party and for a Barisan Nasional component party to bring them in means bringing people to the Government,"
"They are also those from the Orang Asli community who like to be members of a party with the same sort of concern as the people of Sabah and Sarawak."
"(But) they have no avenues because obviously they can't be joining the MIC or the MCA so they have found a convenient friend in us."
"Actually the issues are more or less the same whether you are in Sabah, Sarawak or the peninsula."
"The natives have the same sort of yearning for full participation in government, to get as much from the Government as they can get in the way of development, not only social but also mental development.
"We feel we are probably one of the ready channels."
