Sabah manufacturers support minimum wage
KOTA KINABALU Jan 26, 2012: The Federation of Manufacturers Sabah (FSM) has clarified that it supports the principle of minimum wage.
“We believe that the wage amount must strike a balance between employees having a decent living standard whilst employers continue to operate sustainably; achieving a ‘win-win’ situation,” FSM said in a statement yesterday to clarify on the minimum wage misunderstandings.
FSM is frustrated that the speech given by its president, Datuk Seri Wong Ken Thau, during the luncheon dialogue held on Jan 20 with Deputy Human Resource Minister Senator Dato’ Maznah Mazlan and various trade chambers, had been critically mis-quoted by some quarters.
The mis-quote was that ‘FSM together with other trade chambers proposed for a delay of three years in implementation of minimum wage’.
“We propose that the implementation to be gradual, on a incremental basis, up to three years for some sectors/industries facing difficulties in Sabah’s challenging high-cost business environment.
“We are concerned about severe rising food and service prices as a result of implementing a wage amount much higher than current market level; hence defeating the purpose by eroding the living standards of wage earners,” said FSM.
On the federation’s ‘involvement’ in the minimum wage setting process, FSM and other trade chambers wish to state that their ‘Sabah Employer’ representative in the National Wage Consultative Council was not appointed in consultation, nor recommended by them.
“They have not actively engaged us in discussions, or providing feedback to us throughout the past year. This has kept many of our members in the dark about deliberations within the Council, invariably with binding effect on us.
“Faced with passive involvement from the government as a conduit/mediator on this pertinent issue, especially in the context of Sabah, it is unfortunate that representatives from both divide, namely employers and employees have been put in opposite corners due to misguided information.”
FSM hereby extends an open invitation to all employees’ representatives to meet and discuss on this issue, with the common objective of making Sabah better, both for decent living and business. viability.
Pelaksanaan gaji minimun ini tidak menyeluruh. Harus dilaksanakan di semua negeri dan semua jenis pekerjaan.

PadamTidak juga semua perlu ada gaji minimum ini. Kita perlu tengok dari beban kerja juga untuk menetapkan gaji minimum. Contoh perkerja restoran dengan gaji minimun adalah RM1000, namun begitu juga dengan pekerja membuat bangunan mendapat gaji minimun RM1000. Maka ini rasanya tidak begitu sesuai. Kerana beban kerja yang berbeza dengan gaji yang sama. Kalau begitu bagus lagi yang membuat bangunan itu berkerja sebagai pekerja restoran. Gaji sama saja kerja senang.
Padamgaji minimum pelru bagi memastikan tiada penindasan terhdap pekerja kerana pada masa kni, kos hidup makin tinggi, tapi gaji yang diberikan kepada pekerja amatlah rendah.
