NEW CONTRACTORS FOR COMPUTER LABS IN SABAH

New contractors for computer labs in Sabah

Kota Kinabalu October 31, 2010: New contractors have been appointed to address problems in completing about 300 computer labs in Sabah schools.

Education Deputy Minister, Dr Mohd Puad bin Zarkashi, said the ministry has taken such action to ensure the work of completing the labs, some of them incomplete and abandoned, continued.

"The ministry is aware of this problem and, thus, we have replaced the old contractors by appointing new contractors to finish the project," he said at a press conference after launching the second meet-the-client session by Education Ministry at Suria Sabah, here, Saturday.

In January this year, Minister-in-charge of education in Sabah, Datuk Masidi Manjun, blasted contractors for not completing the computer lab projects in Sabah schools.

He said the poor performance of the contractors had affected students' opportunities to learn basic computer applications.

"The contractors for the projects were appointed by the headquarters (Education Ministry) and they do not know the present situation in Sabah unlike the local contractors here.

On whether the projects could be completed within this year, Dr Mohd Puad said the ministry is committed to completing all the projects.

According to him, works to complete the computer labs are in progress.
