QE HOSPITAL TO OPEN NEXT MONTH

QE Hospital to open next month after refurbishment

image KOTA KINBALU July 30, 2011: The Queen Elizabeth II Hospital (QEHII) will be fully operational next month, a step towards normalising health services in the state.

Renovations to the hospital took less than eight months and were completed on July 27.

Sabah Health Department director Dr Mohd Yusof Ismail said the state Health Department should be able to provide better services to the public once the hospital re-opens.

He said the renovations to 12 operation theatres have been completed.

Among the work carried out were the construction of a five-storey car park, elevators, refurbishment of the Accident and Emergency Department, and deve-lopment of the Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Centre.

imageThe QEHII building was bought over from the Sabah Medical Centre last year by the Federal Government to overcome congestion after the 12-storey tower block at the premises was declared unsafe.

Dr Yusof said work to replace the tower block was progressing as scheduled and is expected to be ready next year.
