Don't be influenced by rumours, says Liew
Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) must be left alone to investigate any instance of impropriety by any quarters, regardless of their status.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk V.K Liew stressed this in the light of reports that certain personalities from Sabah involved in alleged money laundering activities are now under MACC scrutiny.
"In the matters that were reported in Nanyang Siang Pao and the news portal Malaysiakini, lately, the best course of action is to let the MACC investigate the allegation, if any," he said.
Liew, whose jurisdiction includes the MACC, urged the people to be rational and remain calm. Don't be easily influenced by irresponsible rumour mongers, he added.
"As I have said in Parliament no stone shall be left unturned by the MACC in any investigation involving corruption regardless of any suspected person's standing or position in society.
"I have also said that no one can influence MACC in their investigation of any corrupt practice involving any personality. MACC must be left on their own entirely to carry out their investigation independently without fear or favour from anyone," he said.
The Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) had on Sunday expressed concern over reports in the national Chinese daily and news portal about several people in Sabah being detained and investigated for money laundering.
Meanwhile, Umno Sabah Executive Secretary Datuk Kadzim M Yahya said SAPP has been blowing up issues in the media without justification almost on a daily basis.
He said some of SAPP's statements sent to the media were sourced from blogs that had their own agendas on spreading misinformation and blatant lies.
Kadzim said it was typical of the opposition, including SAPP, to mislead the people by attempting to link alleged misdeeds to Umno and BN and raise doubts in the coalition's ability to govern the State and country.
"Whatever the BN government does is wrong. The 10th Malaysia Plan was just unveiled by the Prime Minister and the very next day SAPP already questioned whether the plan is achievable.
This is for political mileage," he said in a statement, Monday.
He said that similarly, SAPP again was up to mischief when it called into question the RM500 million bond raised by the State Government.
"The bond issue was explained during the recent State Assembly sitting and was again cleared up by PBS Information Chief, Datuk Johnny Mositun.
SAPP is again trying to mislead and confuse the people," he said.

The MACC must not be easily influenced while investigating a case. This is to ensure fair and just results.
BalasPadamyup, i strongly agree that the public's should don't be easily influenced by irresponsible rumour especially related to MACC investigation recently.
BalasPadamlet the MACC do their job and wait the result and explanation from them, not by certain parties who tend to spreading misinformation..
BalasPadamMACC is free commission, MACC will be doing investigation with fair without influenced by any party.
BalasPadamDiharapkan semua pihak memberikan kerjasama bila SPRM menjalankan tugas.
BalasPadamYeah, let the authority doing its job. We are not the one who make the decision after all.
BalasPadamGood advice. Rumours will be rumours. Listening and draw in your own conclusion without reading/listening from both side of the parties is not good..Let the MACC do their work and we will have to wait for outcome of it..
BalasPadamHuman's norms.Speculations are prone to be believed instead of the truth.
BalasPadamMACC sedang membuat kerja mereka.Jadi jangan ganggu.
BalasPadamHaiya, stop bothering people doing their jobs la.
