DAP wants the ban on Mojuntin book lifted
Kota Kinabalu: DAP Secretary-General, Lim Kit Siang, has challenged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and the Federal Cabinet to find out why he (Lim) believes "Malaysia is less 1Malaysia" 10 months after the launching of the 1Malaysia concept.
"After 10 months of 1Malaysia, Malaysia is more polarised and divided in the region," he told reporters, Friday. Towards this end, he said Najib should sit down with his Cabinet to seriously discuss the matter.
He also challenged Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to take three tests in order to tell whether the 1Malaysia concept has succeeded.
- He said the first was whether "Muhyiddin could get the support from a Parliamentary Select Committee on 1Malaysia (if set up) headed by an opposition MP".
- The second was to ask Muhyiddin to declare that in 1Malaysia it should be "Ketuanan Malaysia" (Malaysia Supremacy) instead of the "Ketuanan Melayu" (Malay Supremacy).
- The last was to see whether Muhyiddin would be able to declare himself a Malaysian first and Malay second in accordance to the definition of 1Malaysia in the 1Malaysia Government Transformation Programme Roadmap.
The Ipoh Timur MP also urged the Prime Minister to produce a white paper on all documents related to the oil royalty issue to the state of Kelantan, Terengganu and Sabah since 1974 in Parliament.
He claimed Terengganu, which had been enjoying oil royalty for 25 years, had it revoked because the Federal Government stated that it was not obliged to give the oil royalty after the opposition won the State in 2004.
Towards this end, he said Sabah should support the campaign on oil royalty as the issue affecting its counterparts in the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia was similar to theirs.
On another note, Lim said the people in Sabah, especially the KDM community, should voice out their support for the lifting of the ban on the book entitled "The Golden Son of the Kadazans".
He questioned the reason for the government to ban the book that was written on Sabah's leader Datuk Peter Mojuntin, who died in the plane crash on June 6, 1976 together with then Chief Minister Tun Fuad Stephens, Datuk Salleh Sulong, Datuk Darius Binion and others in Sembulan.
"Sabah's development could have been very much different if these leaders were alive today," he said.
He said the question was raised in Parliament in November last year and the reply from the Government was that the book threatened peace and order.
"But is it because it was written by a DAP Assemblyman, (the late) Bernard Santa Maria? We cannot accept the banning of the book," he said.
Lim said that if the ban on the book "The Malay Dilemma" can be lifted there was no reason the same could not be done for "The Golden Son of the Kadazans".
Later, Lim together with Sabah DAP chief, Dr Hiew King Cheu, deputy chief, Jimmy Wong, Serdang MP, Teo Nie Ching and other Sabah DAP leaders visited the Chinese New Year open house hosted by Moyog Assemblyman, Donald Mojuntin in Penampang.
Later in the afternoon, the DAP entourage visited the Triple Six monument in Sembulan to place a wreath in memory of the Sabah leaders who died in the crash.
According to Hiew, who is also the Kota Kinabalu MP, Lim would be attending the Pakatan Rakyat Chinese New Year open house at Kian Kok Hall on Sunday together with Parti Keadilan Rakyat advisor, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
