AADK: Sabah facing serious Syabu problem
Tawau: Sabah is among states in the country facing serious drug problems due to the widespread use of the synthetic drug Syabu in the State, said National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) Director-General, Datuk Abd Bakir Zin.
In this respect, he hoped the cooperation between enforcement officers like Rela, Police, Customs and Health Department, among others, would help overcome the menace.
According to him, individuals under surveillance (OKP) in Sabah totalled 674, while 942 were under OKP police, making the overall total 1,616.
In Tawau, he said there were 89 OKP comprising 80 men and nine women under the AADK.
On other developments, he will be officiating at the AADK new office in Sandakan today (Tuesday).
He said, among others, matters discussed during the meeting with Sabah AADK directors and officers involved enhancing and implementing programmes for the OKP to ensure they don't revert to crime again.
Among the programmes, he said, is community service such cleaning prayer houses and graves.
He said the community programme would be conducted every week.
Meanwhile, Bakir said the Government has appointed a contractor to revive an "ailing" project in Papar.
He said the contractor concerned has commenced work and that the AADK would be monitoring the development of the upgrading works every month to ensure the project is completed.
