Pakistani's death: Man held for false report

Ranau: A Pakistani motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a four-wheel drive (4WD) at Km 62 Jalan Ranau-Telupid, near here, last Friday.

District Police Chief, DSP Suhaimy Hashim said Shamsul Qamar Nuqarab Shah, 25, died on the spot following the 2.30pm mishap.

He said the driver of the 4WD vehicle, who was heading to Kota Kinabalu from Sandakan, lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the motorcycle.

The victim's body was flown back to his home country following a post mortem, he said.

Meanwhile, police have detained two youths travelling in the 4WD vehicle.

"One of them, a 20-year-old earlier lodged a report saying he was the one who ran into the Pakistani but later retracted the report and claimed his 19-year-old friend did it," Suhaimy said.

The older man has been detained under Section 108 of the Road Transport Act for submitting a false report while his younger friend under Section 41 of the same Act for dangerous driving which resulted in death.

In another development, police are looking for a 28-year-old man to help investigations into a 4WD theft here on Sunday.

Those who know the whereabouts of Justin Karamin, a former convict, whose last address was at Merungin 2, have been urged to contact the district police at 088-87522 or Suhaimy at 019-518 8654.

Earlier, a 52-year-old man had lodged a report saying his 4WD was missing from his home in Kg Sinurai Timbua.

Suhaimy said the vehicle was found at Uni-Global Estate in Lahad Datu the following morning.
