Talk about RCI and NCR issues, Sabah DAP tells Siringan

KOTA KINABALU May 27, 2012: Sabah DAP is not surprised at the criticism levelled at the party by Upko member of parliament for Ranau Datuk Siringan Gubat concerning the party’s promotion of its mascot toys and DVDs of the party’s election campaign song “Ubah” in the coming Sabah DAP Kaamatan dinner at Putera Ballroom, Bukit Padang on May 28.

The guest of honour is Pulau Pinang Chief Minister and DAP secretary general Lim Guan Eng.

Commenting on Siringan’s statement yesterday, Sabah DAP secretary Dr Edwin Bosi said as far as DAP Sabah is concerned Siringan wants to distract the people from the real issue which is the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on illegal immigrant.

“Upko and PBS leaders are now made to look so gullible and helpless when after telling Sabahans that the Prime Minister will announce the setting up of the RCI only to find that it did not materialise until now.

“At this juncture, Kadazan BN leaders including Upko president Tan Sri Bernard Dompok continue to believe that the announcement is forthcoming.

“Sabah DAP would like to remind Siringan that we are a political party and not an NGO such as KDCA. For the latter to promote Upko or PBS during this Kaamatan celebration is unacceptable.

“On the contrary, if Upko wants to promote the Upko in Upko-organised Kaamatan it should not be a problem. It is acceptable. Asking KDCA to look seriously at this matter (DAP promoting its mascot toys and DVDs during Kaamatan) shows the lack of understanding and intelligence on the part of Siringtan Gubat as a long-term politician and MP,” Edwin said.

Edwin added that for Siringan to say that the Tadau Kaamatan celebration should not be mixed with political and business-making activities, shows the narrow-mindedness and selective attitude of the Ranau MP.

“He forgot that during the PBS era the Tadau Kaamatan was celebrated with a strong political and business influence. In fact today, the Tadau Kaamatan celebration is all about business if one looks at the stalls around the KDCA building,” he said.

Sabah DAP would like Siringan to first look and discuss on the “merit” of using alcohol to promote the State-level Tadau Kaamatan.

This advertisement is all about business but it also gives an impression of the close relationship between the ethnic groups that celebrate Tadau Kaamatan and alcohol.

“Siringan should be concerned about this issue,” Edwin pointed out.

He said it is also more beneficial if Siringan took up the space in the newspaper to highlight the problem of illegal immigrants and NCR land.

He should continue not only to harp but act on these issues until they are resolved, Edwin said.

“He should spend more time on addressing these issues which have contributed towards making Sabah the poorest state in Malaysia.

“Siringan should also visit the shops in Kundasang where after a brief heavy rain there is flooding interrupting business activity,” he said.
