KYS to be upgraded to university college

KOTA KINABALU 24th May, 2012: Kolej Yayasan Sabah (KYS) will be upgraded to university college in less than two years and is now in the midst of enhancing the level of education of both staff and students.

Chairman of the college’s board of directors, Datuk Kamal D. E. Quadra said the effort was a result of a collaboration between Kolej Yayasan Sabah and Universiti Kuala Lumpur.

“It is our objective to raise the level of education of all students and staff,”

he said when speaking at the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between KYS and the Tun Haji Mohd Fuad Stephens Borneo Research Library at the Yayasan Sabah here yesterday.

He pointed out that the college had been encouraging its staff including the teaching staff to further their studies up to the doctorate level.

When elaborating on the MoU, he said it was to strengthen co-operation in the areas of study, training, research and development for the benefit of the students, lecturers and staff of KYS.

“Furthermore, KYS will certainly require support from the Tun Haji Mohd Fuad Stephens Borneo Research Library in setting up our own library when the college becomes a university,” said Kamal.

Meanwhile, Yayasan Sabah deputy director, Datuk Dr Johan Ariffin Abdul Samad said under the MoU, all KYS students and staff will be able to use the services of the research library through digital means and web programming.

“The library will function as a unique resource centre and is capable of storing and disseminating information in various academic fields, particularly on topics related to Borneo,” he said.

KYS was represented by Kamal and its chief executive officer, Dr Dayang Aminah Ali and the Tun Haji Mohd Fuad Stephens Borneo Research Library by Dr Johan and chief librarian, Zaiton Bakri.
