Dompok shocked at Musa's unwillingness to push for royalty rise
MON, 12 APR 2010 06:41 KOTA KINABALU: Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities Bernard Dompok is dismayed that the Sabah government is averse to asking the federal government to increase the payment of oil royalty to the state.
Dompok, who is also United Pasok Momogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (UPKO) president, said he is at a loss as to why Chief Minister Musa Aman is unwilling to raise the matter with Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak.
"It is already a public knowledge we had an occasion to discuss this (increase of the oil royalty from the current 5 percent) with (former prime minister) Abdullah (Badawi).
"We communicate with him and told him how UPKO felt about it...our feeling was that the state can ask for an increase (in the oil royalty)."
"In fact we have said so and we have told the federal government our view that the state can ask for an increase in oil royalty."
But Dompok however was guarded when asked about Musa's stand that the federal government had been generous with funds for Sabah in the past as such it was not important to ask for an increase in the royalty for the state.
Known as one of the few Sabah BN leaders who is unafraid to speak his mind when it comes to protecting the state's rights, all Dompok would said was: "Well, that's always what they said, but I think that, since you are asking me, that is what I feel about it."
"It's not for me to tell what Sabah should do now. I am just saying my personal feeling is that Sabah can request for an increase in oil royalty," he said.
He declined to say whether the the state BN component parties should sit down and discuss about it.
"As far as I am concerned, our views with regards to the oil royalty is still on record even though no attempt or action has been taken since our last communication with Abdullah.
"The state cabinet is represented by various component parties of the Barisan Nasional and I think the individual parties have their own stand on the issue and feelings on the issue."
He refused to be drawn into any debate about whether any other BN component parties in Sabah had brought up the matter with Najib or his predecessor Abdullah.
"We communicated our feelings to the then Prime Minister Abdullah," was all he would say.
He said that UPKO could propose that the matter be discussed at state level during a BN Sabah meeting but tempered his statement by adding: "We already have a functioning cabinet in the state which is composed of all the component parties in the Barisan Nasional (to deal with the issue).
CM may have their own reasons why not to do so. furthermore, as a finance minister of sabah, he knew how much government allocations may be flows to Sabah which in his consideration its enough to lead development of Sabah.
BalasPadamPlease go to rural areas then decide if the allocation is enough or not. Don't judge the current government performance by looking at new buildings in urban areas. Big buildings mean nothing if potholes everywhere and how can he said the allocation is enough if 'earth hour' happened everyday! And don't use the word 'privately-owned' as an excuse. Last but not least, don't supply unsustainable energy mechanism to the rural villages, unless if the current government can give the so-called enough allocation for the villages to buy fuel and cover the maintenance cost!... when the villages asked for help, normal answer would.."tidak cukup peruntukan" ... Is that in line with what you said "his consideration its enough to lead development of Sabah"?... Start thinking please
BalasPadamTanpa Nama said..
BalasPadamcan u tell me how much village(rural) in sabah? hundred? thousand?.. did u make ur own research to every rural areas? actually, most rural areas have been developed la.. media only distributes information about the backwardness and problems of rural areas and u opinion based on that. but have u ever heard areas that have been developed are published by media? Do not talk like sabah in your hands...who seems to know every areas of Sabah..
start balancing your thinking equally with +ve and -ve. do not lead by the -ve thinker..
Your definition of 'rural areas' must be those near to major townships. Try traveling further and look around.
BalasPadamFYI, I have been to these kampungs. I have seen students walking barefooted to school. I have driven to these kampungs and it was not an easy drive. I was visited kampungs by boats and it's not an easy ride as well. I have seen local villages spoilt by contractors crony to certain politicians. Common la. I don't say things without experiencing them.
Providing infrastructure without enough man-power is NOT development. It makes things even worst. Imagine traveling kilometers to these clinics and ended up to be told no doctor or no medicine. Is that what you called development? Schools without teacher... is that development? These are the basic necessities under ANY government which required NO PROMISES in any political campaign. And back to the topic, their answers will be.. "tidak cukup peruntukan".
And for your information, some negative thinking leads to positive results and not all positive thinking leads to positive results
Stop fanning la and start improving.

Bullshit!! Walau apa terjadi, Sabah tetap dibawah Malaysia. Tidak perlu hubungan dua hala. Apa erti hubungan 2-hala kalau satu kaya, satu lagi miskin? Common la Sabahan...wake up!!!!
BalasPadamHarap isu royalti minyak dapat diselesaikan.
