KUALA LUMPUR 21/11/2012: There are no plans to widen the scope of the Royal Commission of Inquiry on Sabah's illegal immigrant problem to cover Peninsula Malaysia, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Liew Vui Keong.

“There is no proposal to widen the scope of the Royal Commission of Inquiry to Peninsula Malaysia as the problem does not arise here,”

The large number of legal foreign workers here has no effect on Malaysia's workforce, the Human Resources Ministry said.

KUALA LUMPUR 31/10/2012: Malaysian workers, according to the Human Resources Ministry, is not at risk even with over 1.4 million foreign workers here.

Deputy HR minister, Senator Maznah Mazlan, said that 1.403 million foreigners here held the Temporary Employment Visit Pass, contributing to 11.2% of Malaysia’s total workforce.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 ― Putrajaya revealed today that businessman Michael Chia was never caught in Hong Kong holding large sums of Singapore currency as reported, in the latest twist to the saga over a RM40 million political donation for Sabah Umno.

“According to MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission), Chia was never arrested in Hong Kong... that is the MACC’s answer.

“And (Hong Kong’s) ICAC (Independent Commission Against Corruption) never caught Michael Chia,”

PUTRAJAYA DARED TO FORM RCI ON PROGRESS IN SABAH, SARAWAK

Putrajaya dared to form RCI on progress in Sabah, Sarawak

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 16 — A royal commission of inquiry (RCI) is needed to see if Sabah and Sarawak’s “dreams and aspirations” in forming Malaysia with Malaya 49 years ago has been “fulfilled or betrayed”, Lim Kit Siang said today.

The DAP parliamentary leader called for all MPs from Sabah and Sarawak to give their unanimous support when he proposes such an RCI in the next Parliamentary sitting.

“The people of Sarawak and Sabah were promised progress and development, at least to the level achieved by the Peninsula states,”

Kota Kinabalu August 22, 2012: DAP National Adviser Lim Kit Siang who is on a four-day visit to Sabah, visited the former Mamut Copper Mine to see the damage inflicted on the land.

In a statement, DAP Sabah Secretary Dr Edwin Bosi said the mining activity from 1975 to 1994 had produced about RM3.4 billion worth of copper, gold and silver with royalty earned to a tune of only RM200 million.

Lim, he said, was shocked to learn that only RM13 million was allocated for rehabilitation work.

KUALA LUMPUR July 6, 2012: DAP ridiculed MCA’s RM1 billion bailout allegation against Pakatan Rakyat, with a detailed presentation over how Talam Corporation settled its RM392 million debt with the Selangor government.

In a press conference today, DAP’s publicity chief Tony Pua said that MCA-Labis MP Chua Tee Yong erred in his quest to attack Pakatan Rakyat.

He said that adding Talam’s debts and Selangor’s acquiring of its assets – worth RM676 million- was a case of “double-counting”.

“If someone had done his homework, he would not have made these stupid blunders,”

Menurut Khairy, beliau sebelum ini telah membangkitkan isu tersebut kepada peguam negara sebelum ia dipinda.

"Kita telah bangkitkan isu beban bukti kepada peguam negara mengenai perkara. Saya serahkan kepada kerajaan untuk mengkaji sama ada perlu atau tidak tarik balik akta tersebut.

POLLS DELAY WILL FAVOUR OPPOSITION

KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 – Lim Kit Siang today said delays in the general elections will favour Pakatan Rakyat (PR), giving the opposition more time to “debunk lies” by the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN).

The elections must be called within a year, but uncertainty over its date has resulted in a guessing game.

“Time is on Pakatan Rakyat’s side – as any further delay in elections will only provide more time... to debunk the Umno/BN campaign of lies, falsehoods and demonisation,” said the DAP parliamentary leader (picture) in a speech in Kuching.

Cabotage policy keeping East Malaysians poor

Goods are more expensive in Sabah and Sarawak because of the federal government's cabotage rules, say Pakatan Rakyat MPs.

PETALING JAYA May 2, 2012: Pakatan Rakyat MPs have asked for cabotage rules imposed on Sabah and Sarawak – the reason behind the higher price of goods there – to be relaxed.

They said that the policy set in the early 1980s made sure that all the domestic transport of foreign goods could only be done by Malaysian vessels.

This, according to them, led to excessive shipping costs, and ultimately a higher cost of living in East Malaysia.

KOTA KINABALU April 24, 2012: The amendments to the Election Offences Act 1954 clearly reflects the government’s failure to carry out a proper study, according to Fuziah Salleh, the vice president of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).

The Kuantan member of parliament who was involved in the marathon seven-hour debate on the bill in the Dewan Rakyat recently, stressed that the basic eight demands by the Coalition for Free and Fair Elections (Bersih) should be fulfilled to ensure clean and fair elections in Malaysia.

“Two provisions were excluded, while the others were passed by the Dewan Rakyat despite the debate having taken seven hours before it came to a conclusion.

Perenggan 15(2)(c) telah digugurkan yang dicadangkan melarang pelajar daripada bertanding dalam pilihan raya bagi atau memegang apa-apa jawatan dalam mana-mana persatuan, pertubuhan, badan atau kumpulan pelajar di dalam kampus, jika pelajar itu memegang apa-apa jawatan dalam sesuatu parti politik.

Rang undang-undang berkenaan diluluskan tanpa sebarang pindaan.

CUKAI 6% PRABAYAR TELCO : KERAJAAN BATALKAN ATAU RAKYAT BATALKAN KERAJAAN?

KUALA LUMPUR, 22 Nov (Bernama) -- Kerajaan belum memutuskan sama ada membatalkan atau tidak cukai enam peratus terhadap pengguna talian pra-bayar seperti yang diumumkan Syarikat telekomunikasi (telco) sebelum ini.

Menyatakan demikian di Dewan Rakyat pada Selasa, Timbalan Menteri Penerangan Komunikasi dan Kebudayaan (KPKK) Datuk Joseph Salang berkata cukai tersebut merupakan salah satu daripada cukai pendapatan utama negara.

"Keputusan yang akan dibuat juga mungkin bergantung kepada syarikat Telco sendiri," katanya ketika menjawab soalan tambahan dari Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (PKR-Machang) mengenai status penangguhan caj tersebut seperti yang diumumkan KPKK baru-baru ini.

KUALA LUMPUR 8 Nov. - Isu pinjaman RM250 juta kepada National Feedlot Corporation Sdn. Bhd. (NFC) yang dipertanggungjawabkan untuk melaksanakan projek Pusat Fidlot Nasional 'panas' apabila berlaku pertikaman lidah antara penyokong kerajaan dan pembangkang dalam sesi penggulungan Kementerian Pertanian dan Industri Asas Tani di Dewan Rakyat hari ini.

Ia berpunca daripada dakwaan Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (PKR-Machang) bahawa pinjaman RM250 juta itu telah diserahkan sepenuhnya kepada syarikat berkenaan apabila fakta tersebut diperolehinya melalui carian maklumat kunci kewangan Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia (SSM).
