KOTA KINABALU September 13, 2012: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy secretary general Darell Leiking yesterday urged everyone to speak up against those who choose not to live in harmony with other culture and creed.
He also urged all Sabahans to be calm over the article written by an obvious provocateur who was out to create apprehension between Sabahans and Malaysians in the peninsula.
Too many statements are appearing these days that insult not only the intelligence of Sabahans and Sarawakians but their dignity, he said when commenting on an article posted on Suara Pakatan Rakyat blog that denigrated the KadazanDusun traditional dance, Sumazau.
“We urge everyone to speak up against these bigots,” he said, adding that a report was also made under the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998 (Complaint No.0278/09/12) against the article and the website by Penampang division PKR.
Darell said PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had in a press statement said that the party had nothing to do with the blog and article.
Darell said the intent of the article was highly suspicious, for while it was critical of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak it was also clearly intended to demean the Kadazan culture.
Meanwhile, Dr Wan Azizah said the blog tries hard to appear to be a Pakatan Rakyat mouthpiece, but she believed it is an attempt at psychological warfare against Pakatan Rakyat.
All political parties in the country should stop using race, religion and culture as a tool to achieve their political agendas.
PadamI do agree with this statement, any political party in this whole entire world should stop making religion and race as their weapons to knock others down.
PadamGerakan Sabah liaison chairman Datuk Gordon Leong made the call here while taking the “Suara Pakatan Rakyat” to task, for insulting the Sumazau dance.
BalasPadamThe website has apparently described the Sumazau dance as only fit for those with low morality.
PadamPKR denies they are doing it. So who's the main culprit? Why have to label Sumazau dance in that way?
PadamHe added that such thoughtless and immature statement had exposed the mentally and irresponsible attitude of the said blogger and those responsible for the said website.
BalasPadamIndeed. This is an irresponsible manner.
PadamHe regretted that in its enthusiasm to humiliate Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib for his participation in the traditional Kadazandusun dance in Keningau recently, he said the website had stirred up racial sentiments and jeopardised racial harmony among Malaysians generally and Sabahans in particular.

BalasPadamGordon commented that it is an insulting remark the writer of the website has made, especially in this day and age.
The subject of race and ethicity as well as religion and culture should never be used as a political tool.
BalasPadamIn a country where peace and harmony are enjoyed and where cultural and ethnic diversities are our proudest assets, such racist and irresponsible remarks are disrespectful and are totally uncalled for.
BalasPadamGordon conveyed Gerakan Sabah’s message to the website: "please keep the disrespectful immature and insensitive racist remarks within your backyard and don’t indoctrinate us with your racism and attempts to cause racial disunity and disharmony in our beloved country."
BalasPadamGordon said the Sumazau is a beautiful and intricate traditional ethnic dance which truly reflects the Sabah Kadazandusun community’s culture, depicting the peace and harmony that the people of Sabah enjoyed.
BalasPadamHe further noted that amongst other ethnic dances, the Sumazau has become synonymous with Sabah, especially in the tourism sector where the dance is performed to welcome tourists, besides inviting them to partake in it.
BalasPadamThe Sumazau is proudly performed and showcased at every function, celebration and event throughout Sabah as well as Malaysia.
BalasPadamGordon pointed out that the Sumazau has also been showcased in international events and competitions and has won international recognition.
BalasPadamSo Gordon urged all Malaysians, especially Sabahans, to stand united in the Anak Malaysia’s true spirit of Satu Hati, Satu Negara, Satu Wawasan to proudly defend “our identity, roots, culture, tradition, unity, peace and harmony”.
BalasPadamKalau tidak suka sama tu tarian jangan lah buat cerita macam ni. Mesti orang semenanjung juga suka buat macam ni.
BalasPadamHe is freely to give opinion but to some extent for better improvement etc.
