Customers steal shop owner’s belongings

RANAU May 24, 2012: A 45-year-old shop owner lost her personal belongings to two unidentified men who walked into her sundry shop at Kampung Lohan pretending to be customers.

District police chief DSP Abdul Rahman Kassim said police investigation believed the incident happened around 3pm on May 21.

“Initial police investigation believed that while the victim, who is also the shop owner, was busy entertaining one of the suspects, his accomplice grabbed her handbag that was left unattended on the counter,” he said yesterday.

According to Abdul Rahman, the victim only realized that she had been robbed after the suspects had left the shop.

Among the items missing were an ATM bank card, a MyKad, a Rela card and cash totalling RM700, he said.

Police investigation also showed that both suspects took off in a Proton Saga car.

“Police have identified the suspects and we have informed our counterparts in other districts to be on a lookout for them,” he said, adding the case would be investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.

Abdul Rahman urged members of the public with information to come forward and assist police in their investigation.
