Oil and gas contractors far from satisfied
Kota Kinabalu Feb 01, 2012: A total of 90 people who attended the clinic for local oil and gas contractors on Jan 30 and the morning session on Jan 31 were far from satisfied.
Wane Sevelen and Jenny Sodomon, who were among the 22 whose business was already registered, came for the second time representing an oil and gas company which carries out logistics and manpower services to check on their status.
They expressed their disappointment because although they had a chance to come face to face with experts, they still had not solved their problems.
"We've been asked to wait another four weeks, but we cannot wait that long. We need the licence to continue doing business," said Jenny, adding that they had to wait a few weeks even before that.
She also complained that the virtual bank account given to them a while back was invalid.
A director who wanted to remain anonymous said the difficulties faced were due to the migration from the old system to the new one and thinks that employers should come themselves instead of sending representatives, so that they themselves are able to understand the system.
"I think that is where some of the problems might come from.
In my case, we need to update the system to proceed for payment," he added.
Meanwhile, a Project Manager from Swakaya Sdn Bhd, a business involved in submerged pipelines from the diving industry, said: "We didn't know about the possibility of being registered under Petronas and had no idea it was a walk-in clinic until Monday. The information published on Daily Express is what led me to come here."
An Administrative Assistant representing NAS Engineering Sdn Bhd said since Petronas is changing from an old system to a new one, it is a bit difficult to adjust at first, but that they have asked for assistance.
One of the consultants from Petronas headquarters claimed to have repeated the same information 40 times, so instead of the face to face meet-up which took place on the first day, he gave a talk.
Those attending were given a brief explanation and were also advised to print and read instructions before asking questions regarding the registration process.
Among others, the personnel hired by contractors must meet the required qualifications which, according to him, includes a diploma.
"If you your company does not meet our requirements, please do not apply," he advised.
"When you submit a general application, the process will take three weeks to complete.
We will be glad to assist you after that time limit, but before that, please remain patient."
He also said that those who apply under the strategic application must wait for six weeks.
If one applies for both the strategic and general category, the waiting time is also six weeks.

I'm sure that there are thousands of contractors that need to be satisfied.. so definitely it hard to satisfy all of them unless the govt willing to spend trillion ringgit for more than a thousands projects..
