Philippine mobile consular services
KUALA LUMPUR Jan 7, 2012: The Philippine Embassy is dispatching mobile consular missions to Kota Kinabalu and Tawau to render consular services to Filipinos in the region starting January 9.
The teams are being dispatched in response to the request of Filipinos in these areas and their employers for quicker access to consular services, notably renewal of passports and issuance of travel documents, particularly in the light of the 6P program of the Sabah state government.
“With these consular missions, Filipinos in Sabah will have easier access to passport and other consular services. This will benefit not only Filipinos and families residing in Sabah but also Filipino workers and their Malaysian employers,” said Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia, J.Eduardo Malaya.
A four-person consular team will be based in Kota Kinabalu and the other in Tawau for the next six months.
The team in Kota Kinabalu will hold offices at Lot 17, Block C, First Floor, Inanam Business Center, Inanam. The team in Tawau will be at Lot 6, Block A, First Floor, Tacoln Commercial Complex, 91000 Tawau.
Further inquiries may be sent to emailtowebmaster@philembassykl.org.my.
The teams’ telephone numbers will be announced shortly.
The Embassy received augmentation personnel from the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila for this purpose.
The Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur encourages concerned Filipinos to avail of these consular services in Sabah.
It is good that the Filipino government is willing to cooperate with Malaysian government in the 6P program by sending out Consular service to their people in Sabah.
BalasPadamNo doubt their citizens who are employed in Sabah will also benefit greatly from this decision as the consular will be able to help the renew passports and travel documents.
BalasPadamSupposed to have Philippine consular from the beginning.
BalasPadamYup!Philippines consulate should be open long time ago in Sabah since their citizens are too many here.
BalasPadamThis is the right move taken by Philippines. hope to hear the progress soon.
BalasPadamwith this mobile consulate established, hopefully employer with pinoys on their payroll will take advantage of this opportunity.
BalasPadamkindly ensure that all necessary documentation are being prepared upon proceeding to these mobile consulate.
BalasPadamthe only reason why the Philippines refuses to formally establish a consular office in Sabah is because the Republic recognizes Sabah to be a legitimate province within the Republic of Philippines, whilst not wanting to relinquish territorial claims on Sabah, through diplomatic claims.
