MOST OF JOBS OFFERED AT EXPO OUTSIDE SABAH

image Dec 5, 2011 : KOTA KINABALU: More than 20,000 people visited the two-day Job Expo organized by the Resource Development and Information Technology Ministry at Suria shopping mall here during the weekend.

With 22,200 job opportunities offered, there is no reason for the unemployed in Sabah to feel that the government is not providing employment to them, said Assistant Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid.

She believes that Sabahans have benefitted from the expo as there are a lot of jobs offered, including chances to be entrepreneurs through Maxis and the Sabah Technoprenuer Association (SATA).

“Through this expo, we want to put aside the people’s perception that there are no job opportunities in Sabah. It depends on the people to take this opportunity to obtain suitable job for them,” she said at the closing ceremony of the expo yesterday.

The expo was jointly organised by Suria FM, Malaysia Job Centre, Sabah Job Centre and various government agencies.

Jainab said the expo was not only an avenue that provided jobs as her ministry through the Sabah Job Centre (SJC), was always there to assist job-seekers.

The people can register with SJC by providing their personal details, including contact number to enable the centre to contact them when there is a suitable job for them.

“Those who registered with the job centre must provide valid contact number. Based on past experience, the job-seekers could not be contacted as they had changed the number,” she added.

According to Jainab, 2,200 jobs offered at the expo are based in Sabah and the rest of 20,000 are in Peninsular.

“All the companies involved in this expo are registered under the ministry and it will be easy for the ministry to monitor the companies.

“For those who will be offered jobs in Peninsular, they should not be worried as the companies are all monitored by the ministry. It is different with the illegal companies that provide jobs and then involve in human trafficking activities.

“The ministry can assure that all the companies involved in this expo will be taking care of the welfare of the workers,” she said.

At the state level, the ministry through SJC is always organising various roadshows throughout the state but it is not as big as yesterday’s expo, she added.

Apart from the roadshows, those who are seeking job in other areas can register with the ministry through website at joblink.sabah.gov.my.

The ministry is also providing career guidance to secondary school students as part of their preparation to further studies. They will also teach them how to attend job interview.

Jainab said up till now, 23,000 people had registered with the Sabah Job Centre and website. However from the record, only 20 to 30 per cent were seriously looking for jobs. Some of them were already furthering their studies.

This year, more than 5,000 jobs have been given to the people in the state.

Jainab also reminded parents to double check with the ministry on any types of job that are offered to their children to avoid any cheating cases.

She said some of the job offers displayed at the five-foot ways are most probably not registered with the ministry.

Cuepacs bantah Jusa turus diisi pihak luar

“Kenapa perlu ambil orang luar yang tidak tahu apa-apa tentang jabatan kerajaan sedangkan kita tahu masih ramai penjawat awam yang berkebolehan untuk menjawat jawatan itu.

“Kalau sudah tiada (penjawat awam) yang layak… mungkin orang luar boleh mengisinya, tetapi dengan syarat bukan semua jawatan ditawarkan,”

Presiden CUEPACS, Datuk Omar Osman
