SCHOOLS IN POOR CONDITION TO BE UPGRADED

Schools in poor condition to be upgraded

KOTA BELUD: Some 576 school buildings in critical structural condition will be upgraded next year.

Deputy Education Minister Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi said that an initial allocation of RM500mil have been set aside for the upgrading of schools found to be in poor condition following a physical audit on 9,600 schools nationwide.

“About 6% of schools were found to be in critical condition and need immediate upgrading and rehabilitation work,” he said during a working visit to SK Nanamun here on Saturday.

He said the upgrading involved the construction of classrooms and also teachers’ quarters.

During the visit, Dr Mohd Puad also announced an allocation of RM10mil for six new classrooms.

“Education Minister (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin) has agreed for new classrooms to be built for SK Nanamun,” he said.

Dr Mohd Puad said that a total of 45 school construction projects in the country were delayed or stopped as the contractors were not able to complete the jobs in time for various reasons.

However, he said the number was small if you compare it to some 17,000 projects being carried out under the ministry.

“We do not view it lightly and action has been taken to blacklist the contractors involved,” he added.

Dr Mohd Puad also disclosed that the ministry was upgrading student hostels through a RM50mil allocation by the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry.

“About RM20mil each has been allocated for Sabah and Sarawak while the remaining amount is for hostels in Peninsular Malaysia.”

    Good to learn that fund has been allocated for the schools who need the assistance badly.

    so the Education Minister is doing something to the schools and hostel in Sabah.

    Pemilihan kontraktor bagi melaksanakan sesuatu projek sepatutnya dipilih berdasarkan keupayaan dan kemampuan kontraktor itu sendiri, agar setiap projek yang dijalankan dapat disiapkan mengikut janka masa yang ditetapkan.

    Saya setuju, kontraktor yang tidak dapat menyiapkan projek yang dijalankan tanpa alasan kuat seharusnya dikenakan tindakan tegas.

    Terima kasih kepada kerajaan kerana begitu prihatin akan keperluan rakyat di negara ini. Menaik taraf sekolah pasti dapat menarik lebih ramai para guru untuk berkhidmat walaupun di kawasan pedalaman, pada masa sama juga dapat meningkatkan prestasi pembelajaran di setiap sekolah.
