14 'killer stretches' identified in Sabah

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Road Transport Department (RTD) has identified 14 "killer stretches" in the State, its Director Mohd Shuhaili Mohd Taufek said Saturday.

These are Km 0-Km 15, Jalan Tuaran Bypass, Km 8-Km 20, Jalan KK-Papar and Km 9-Km 22, Jalan Lintas-Kepayan in the State Capital.

Others are in Sandakan (Km 12-Km 52, Jalan Labuk), Tawau (Km 1-Km 24, Jalan Apas-Tawau), Keningau (Km 2-Km 12, Jalan Keningau-Tambunan), Beaufort (Km 10-Km 21, Jalan Beaufort-Papar), Kudat (Km 1-Km 10, Jalan Kudat-Tamalang) and Lahad Datu (Km 28, Jalan Lahad Datu-Sandakan).

SP Kimanis (Km 1-Km 15, Jalan Papar-Beaufort), SP Silam (Km 20-Km 40, Jalan Semporna-Kinak), SP Telipok (Km 1-Km 44, Jalan Tuaran-Kota Belud-Ranau), SP Batu 32 (Km 40-Km 65, Jalan Beluran-Telupid) and SP Segama (Km 28, Jalan Lahad Datu-Sandakan).

According to him, most of the offences committed by motorists are driving beyond the permitted speed limit, not observing the traffic lights, using handphone, not wearing helmet and safety belt, among others, which contribute to accidents.

He also said the department would be working hand in hand with the State Anti-Drugs Agency as well as the police to ensure public transport drivers are not under the influence of drugs and alcohol when operating the vehicles, to ensure safety of the public.

    berhati-hatilah ketika memandu. ikutilah peraturan jalan raya yang ditetapkan. kemalangan boleh dielakkan jika pengguna jalan raya mengamalkan sikap berhati-hati.

    Drive defensively & not offensively...usually people who involved in a car accident doesn't really bother to their surrounding area & only focus on the road in front of them...driving defensively is all about one being aware of his/her surrounding...

    berhati-hatilah dijalan raya, jangan memandu ikut undang-undang sendiri, tapi patuhilah undang-undang yang telah ditetapkan oleh pihak berkuasa. pandu cermat jiwa selamat.

    always be careful not only when driving through the road as mentioned above. especially for this coming Hari Raya, plan your trip and drive carefully.
