AUTHORITIES FAILED IN THEIR KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI) WHEN IT COMES TO DEALING WITH THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT PROBLEM IN SABAH

Call to rid Lahad Datu town of illegals

KOTA KINABALU : The authorities have failed in their Key Performance Indicators (KPI) when it comes to dealing with the illegal immigrant problem in the state, said Haji Mohsin Fadzil Samsuri, Member of Parliament for Bagan Serai in Perak.

He said this following his recent visit to the Lahad Datu township.

Mohsin said these illegal immigrants, many of whom were hawking at the marketplace have not only posed a serious threat to security of the local folks but also deprived them of their livelihood.

The MP who dropped by Lahad Datu to visit some old friends after visiting his son in Bukit Garam, also witnessed for himself how these illegal hawkers played ‘cat-and-mouse’ game with the district council enforcement unit.

“They (the illegal hawkers) fled the scene upon seeing the enforcement personnel but they returned to the marketplace almost immediately after the enforcement personnel had left,” he related.

And, he could not hide his disgust when told by the district council’s assistant enforcement Chief, Aliudin Bin Miasin who gave him a brief tour of the town that some of his personnel were even threatened and assaulted in an operation conducted against these illegal immigrants recently.

While promising to raise this issue when Parliament reconvened next month, he urged the relevant authorities to step up effort to rid the town of the illegal immigrants.

Among others, he suggested the relevant authorities to set up security booths in places considered ‘hotspots’ for the illegal immigrants besides conducting regular patrols by enlisting the RELA(People’s Volunteer Corp).

“The local people should also boycott products and goods peddled by the illegal immigrants,” he added.
