SABAHANS ARE NOT SECOND CLASS CITIZENS WHO ONLY DESERVE SECOND-HAND ELECTRICITY GENERATORS

Ghapur to SESB: Sabahans not second class citizens

Tawau: Sabahans are not second class citizens who only deserve second-hand electricity generators from Langkawi.

Kalabakan MP Datuk Abdul Ghapur Salleh said this in expressing unhappiness when told that two sets of generators which have been installed and in operation since December always broke down, causing frequent blackouts in the district.

"We are not second-class citizens that we are supplied with second-hand generators. The blackout problem in Tawau who is at loss, the business people, consumers, not Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd," he said, in a statement, Thursday.

He said SESB must listen to all the grouses, particularly relating to the quality of its services so that there can be an improvement made according to the current demand.

He said the consumer complaints should not be taken lightly because if failed to deal with it effectively, it will only bring negative consequences to the SESB itself.

Ghafur, who is also Umno Kalabakan Division Chief, said SESB and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) guaranteed last year that by Dec. 24, 2009, there will be no more power disruption in Sabah.

"Based on the assurance, I as Member of Parliament here informed the rakyat there will be no more disruptions after Dec 24 and it was very well received by the people," he said.

However, he said, as a result of the continuous power supply problem here rakyat at the grassroots level now have started to accuse the Government and elected representatives as liars.

"Whenever a blackout happens, the rakyat accuse the Government and elected representatives.

I have always brought up this issue in Parliament but nobody seems to want to know the problem of the rakyat in Sabah who are frequently experiencing a blackout," he said.

Abdul Ghafur said he will raise the matter again in the next Parliament sitting.

On Nov 6 last year SESB chief of operations Abdul Razak Salim said with the installation of two 10MW generator sets at Kampung Pasir, the people in Tawau will never experience load-shedding.
