RANAU, 23rd June, 2009: Sabahans, especially those in the rural areas, will be able to enjoy rapid development very soon at par with people in other states in the country based on the 1Malaysia concept.
Minister of Rural Development Datuk Ewon Ebin said the concept which put the people and their achievement first is an effort by the government to resolve the people’s needs.
He said when the interest of the people is made the focus of development, the effort done to achieve it is to survey, examine and then plan strategies that would tackle their problems.
“This involves basic infrastructures in the villages including construction of access roads, bridges, power and water supplies as well as other facilities such as schools and health centres,” he added.
Ewon made the remarks when speaking at the opening of the Kaamatan celebration jointly organised by eight villages in Mukim Suminimpod at Kg Bayag community hall, about 25 kilometres from here.
According to him, the government’s seriousness to help the people could be seen through the allocation of grants in the various development projects as what had been planned and implemented in the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC).
He said the government’s desire to help improve the livelihood of people in the rural areas would continue.
Through his ministry, Ewon said the government had allocated RM370 million to implement five agropolitan projects throughout the state, which was aimed at helping rural farmers to improve their economies.
“This is a clear example to prove that the government is serious to help the rural people in Sabah in order for them to reach similar level of development with their counterparts in other states in Malaysia,” he said.
During the occasion, Ewon also approved a RM3,200 grant to finance the repair works on the rice mill machine in Kg Bayag and another RM5,000 to build a half-way house for pupils in Kg Giring Giring.
Earlier, Ranau MP Datuk Siringan Gubat urged the people to work together and to continuously support the government so as to facilitate grants allocation.
