Keningau, May 26, 2009: People here cannot be blamed if they now fear there may be World War 11 bombs lurking in their backyards as another war relic was found in the district Monday - the fifth find in two weeks.
The 200-pound bomb found by villager Wasimin Madin, 54, in his rubber smallholding in Kampung Awou, about 20km from here.
Last week and the week before two such bombs were found by workers levelling an area earmarked for a housing estate at Kampung Toboh Baru, not far from the Keningau District Hospital.
Two others were found in the same area several years ago. All the bombs found earlier had been detonated by police.
District police chief Deputy Superintendent Zahari Mohamed said the latest discovery was also not the first found in Wasimin's land. He said a similar bomb was found in the same area several years ago.
He said the rubber tapper informed them about the bomb at 7.30am and a police team was rushed to the area to investigate.
Zahari said like the other bombs found earlier, the explosive found yesterday was about eight inches in diameter and three feet long.
