800,000 FOREIGNERS IN SABAH

c878f24743ad104eb46f2819fc8d7bb1 Kuala Lumpur: Sabah currently has 2.3 million Malaysian citizens and 800,000 non-citizens, accounting for a population of 3.1 million.

Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said the Kadazan/Dusun still make up the most with a population of 600,000, followed by Malay and Bajau (400,000, respectively), Murut (100,000), Chinese (300,000), other ethnic under bumiputera group (500,000) and others (100,000).

He said based on the population census which only started from 1960 for Sabah and Sarawak, there were 500,000 in Sabah then and increased to 3.1 million last year, up by 2.6 million.

As for Sarawak, he said the State had a population of 700,000 in 1960 and last year it was 2.4 million, an increase by 1.7 million.
