KUCHING September 12, 2012: State police commissioner Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani cannot understand why anyone would have an issue with Sarawakians who are generally courteous.
He said this when asked to comment on several ‘anti-Sarawak’ or ‘anti-Sarawakian’ pages popping up in Facebook recently which have drawn furious responses on the social networking site from Sarawakians.
“I really don’t know why anyone would have any issue with Sarawakians or the state. I have been here for eight months now and I find the people here very courteous in general,” Acryl said when met by reporters during a Hari Raya open house hosted by the state police here yesterday.
He added that although he had not received any information on the Facebook pages, he believed they were the creations of irresponsible parties out to provoke negative sentiments among Sarawakians.
The police commissioner said he would be directing the CID and Commercial Crime Department to look into the matter, and would launch an investigation into who is responsible if the content on those pages were found to have broken laws under the Communications and Multimedia Act.
On another issue, Acryl said the case involving two men found in possession of a revolver and live bullets last week was being probed.
“We are still cautiously investigating (the case) from all angles. I am very happy with the progress (of the investigation) so far.”
He declined to comment on rumours that the suspects were hired killers in possession of photographs of certain individuals being targeted.
He said police were still probing the matter.
