“... THE PEOPLE SAID THAT THEY WERE NOT HAPPY WITH THE BN LEADERSHIP .... & THEY WERE ALSO FED UP WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT’S RELUCTANCE TO FORM THE RCI TO LOOK INTO THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT PROBLEM IN SABAH,”

UPKO branch not dissolved – division secretary

KOTA KINABALU April 12, 2012: Kota Marudu United Pasokmomogun KadazanDusun Murut Organization (UPKO) Division secretary Jaimis Sinteh yesterday clarified that the party’s branch in Kampung Lampada was still intact and had not been dissolved.

Jaimis said this in a statement when commenting on a news report that stated that the branch was dissolved because members have joined STAR Sabah.

“It is true that there was a gathering at UPKO Branch chief Taimin Kanur’s house when STAR leaders came to the village but nobody filled up the STAR Sabah membership application forms.

“Even if there were people who filled in the forms, they did not return them to the STAR leadership. When I asked them why they agreed to hold the meeting, the people said that they were not happy with the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership in Kota Marudu and they were also fed up with the federal government’s reluctance to form the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to look into the illegal immigrant problem in Sabah,” he said.

Jaimis added that dissolving a branch is not that simple.

“Under Article 51 (ii) of UPKO’s constitution, any decision to dissolve a branch must be decided by a majority in a specifically called branch committee meeting with 30 days’ notice.

“In this instance, there was no such meeting and therefore no decision to dissolve the branch was made. The 150 UPKO branches in Kota Marudu are solidly behind our divisional chief Senator Datuk Maijol Mahap,” he stressed.

He added that most of the 50 people who allegedly joined STAR Sabah were from outside Kampung Lampada and some of those who attended the gathering were PBS members.

  1. Sabah BN will be setting up a Citizenship Committee to finalize the terms of reference for the RCI so that it can be ready for the PM's review. Hopefully the RCI can be finally be implemented.

  2. I'm sure most Sabahans agreed with PBS that the RCI should be implemented before the next GE is held, otherwise it would be pointless.
