KOTA KINABALU 03 March 2012: SABAH hopes to have one of the best medical establishments in the country with the setting up of a Nuclear Medicine Centre and an Oncologist  Centre.

As part of the Likas Hospital (Women and Children's Hospital) expansion project here, the RM264 million centres are expected to be ready for operation next year .

Following this, state Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister's Department Datuk Edward Khoo said Sabah would have an additional 200 beds to cater to cancer patients.

"The centres will be ready by the end of this year and Sabah will be one of the best in the country in providing healthcare services to cancer patients ... we are working to be the best,"

he said after a closed-door meeting with the board of visitors of hospitals at the state Health Department yesterday.

In efforts to enhance its services, the Health Department had also sent doctors, physicists and other supporting staff from the state to undergo skills training at the Penang Nuclear Medicine Centre.

Khoo said several problems were highlighted during the meeting which included lack of parking space in hospitals throughout the state.

"Sabah is one of the states that do not impose parking fees in hospitals and everyone can use our parking space for free and this causes parking congestion.

"So we may have to review this policy of not charging parking fees."

In view of that, the government had also proposed to build more parking space in hospitals here, Sandakan and Tawau.

Khoo also launched the department's new website (www.jknsabah.moh.gov.my) and Facebook Page (Sabah State Health Department -- Jabatan Kesihatan Negri Sabah) witnessed by its director Dr Yusof Ibrahim.

These are some of the department's initiatives to improve its medical services as it acts as a channel for public to give feedback on the existing services.

"We encourage public to visit us online and comment on our services so that the department can improve for the benefit of the people."

  2. That's true too, if everyone is allowed to use the parking for free, then it may cause congestion and scarcity of parking lots for those who really need to go to the hospital. Perhaps a reasonable fee of RM1 to RM2 can be charged to prevent this problem.
