MINISTER DATUK PETER CHIN FAH KUI, WILL NOT HAVE TO RESIGN !

Power disruptions reduced – and minister’s job is saved

KOTA KINABALU: Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Peter Chin Fah Kui, who put his job on the line in March when he pledged to reduce electricity disruptions, will not have to resign.

The minister ordered Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd to reduce the System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) to 700 minutes by year end from 2,867 minutes (SAIDI is a measurement of the frequency of power supply disruptions).

SESB senior general manager (operations) Abdul Razak Salim said they had succeeded by reducing the interruptions by 76.7%.

He said as at Dec 8 this year, the disruption totalled 667 minutes compared to 2,867 minutes recorded during the same period last year.

“We have worked hard in reducing power disruptions and every staff member has played a part in ensuring the success,” he said during a visit to the SESB main power transmission station in Lok Kawi near here.

The average daily disruption is about 0.7minutes. We believe we can reduce it further within the next 23 days,” he said, adding that Kota Kinabalu area saw the SAIDI figures dropping to 484 minutes.

Abdul Razak said increased power generation and improved distribution had helped reduce power disruptions.

He said that seven districts – Kota Kinabalu, Labuan, Tawau, Beaufort,Keningau, Semporna and Kinabatangan – had recorded power interruptions below 700 minutes while other districts remained slightly above 700 minutes.
