‘Clients’ don’t have to pay

A telecommunication company based in Wawasan Plaza has clarified that the two ‘clients’ who were billed for calls they never made had actually had their personal documents used by another person to open an account with the company.

The company spokesman told Actionline that based on their investigation the registration was done in Kuala Lumpur by someone who had apparently used their personal documents for the purpose.

He said the two ‘clients’ from Papar are no longer liable to settle their bills.

On February 2, the two complained to Actionline about receiving a demand for payment from the company for calls they had made. They thought there was confusion as they were not subscribers to the company’s service. But when they took the matter to the company, they claimed to have been threatened with legal action if they did not settle the outstanding amounts.

Sensing something amiss, they lodged a police report.
