Change mindset not migrate, youths advised
KOTA KINABALU: Sabahan youths need to change their mindset instead of a change of place for jobs, said Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.
He said they do not have to migrate far to find jobs as opportunities back home are plenty. But they must not be too choosy.
“There are plenty of job opportunities here like in the agriculture and construction sectors which are monopolised by thousands of foreign workers because locals are not interested,” he said.
“There are plenty of job opportunities in Sabah but why is it many of our youths still migrate…the pay they get is almost the same but over there (peninsula) the living cost is much higher.”
Masidi was commenting on recent reports about stranded Sabahan youths in the peninsula Malaysia.
It was learnt that some 400 Sabahans are living in the streets in Kuala Lumpur.
The reports said that most of them were either cheated by private employment agencies or mixed with the wrong crowd.
