FORMER DEPUTY TOURISM MINISTER DATUK SERI SULAIMAN TAIB IS NOT SEEKING RE-ELECTION AS THE PARTI PESAKA BUMIPUTERA BERSATU (PBB) VICE YOUTH CHIEF AT THE COMING TRIENNIAL DELEGATES CONVENTION.

Sulaiman Taib not seeking re-election

KUCHING: Former Deputy Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Taib is not seeking re-election as the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice youth chief at the coming triennial delegates convention.

This is despite the fact that at 42 he is still eligible to defend his position.

PBB Youth Movement secretary-general Gerald Rentap Jabu reckons that Sulaiman is giving way to groom new people.

“The incumbent for the vice youth chief (as the bumiputra quota), Sulaiman is not seeking re-election, but we will see a three-cornered fight for the position. We received three nominations, namely Mohd Kamaluddin Affendi, Pandi Sulaihi and Aziz Adenan,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

Sulaiman was appointed deputy minister on March 19, 2008, when Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was the prime minister.

When Datuk Seri Najib Razak took over last April, Sulaiman was retained in the new Cabinet line-up.

Sulaiman, who is the son of the Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, made his election debut in the 2008 general election and won the Kota Samarahan seat by defeating Hussain Abang Apok of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) with a majority of 11,411 votes.
