Kota Kinabalu: A glitch in the National Registration Department's (NRD) identity card (IC) number generation system caused an elderly woman from Kota Belud to have an IC with numbers identical to that of two other unknown people.

NRD Public Relations Officer, Jainisah Mohd Noor, said the department has updated the woman's particulars in the system and, thus, she does not need to apply for a replacement card.

This is because her previous application for the card would be activated and processed, she said.

"The NRD is sorry for any inconvenience faced by the woman because of the mistake," she said in a statement.

The NRD in Kota Belud will inform the woman as soon as the card has been completed, she added.
