RANAU: The people are advised to appreciate all public facilities, to maximise their use and to give the proper maintenance when required so that they can last for years.

As users, they should have the attitude to consider the buildings and the facilities as their own because only through such attitude they could help minimise damage and avoid wastage, Minister of Rural Development Datuk Ewon Ebin said.

He said in view of the government’s willingness to allocate grant for the construction of required public facilities, the people should be aware of their responsibility and roles in making sure that they could also be used by the next generation.

“Although the government has various types of development grants, it will be more useful if they are utilised to build facilities to those who know how to appreciate and to take care of them,” he stressed.

Ewon made the remarks when speaking at the opening of the new mini community hall for Kg Silad, 15 kilometres from town, which was also held in conjunction with their harvest festival celebration.

At the same time, he did not dispute the probability that there were certain individuals in the community who would simply take the advantage of applying for government allocation to build their so called public facility.

“This group of people will only look for selfish way to fulfil their own interest. They merely want to make profit from the projects concerned but have no desire to ensure the smooth implementation of the projects, not even perfect completion,” he said.

According to Ewon, such thing would not be allowed to happen as the authority concerned would conduct constant monitoring exercise to every project that was implemented using public fund.

The completion of the 34’X68’ community hall was made possible through the RM70,000 allocation from the government. It will become a venue for the about 380 villagers to hold their social and community activities.
