FLAG BURNING WARRANTS SEDITION CHARGE

sabah

Kota Kinabaluhttp: The perpetrators in the Sabah flags burning incident should be charged with sedition, veteran politician Dr Chong Eng Leong said.

He said they should be investigated under the Sedition Act or for treason as their action threatened the State's sovereignty.

He also said the real identity of the perpetrators, particularly verification of their MyKad must be looked into.

"Bona fide Sabahans will not burn the Sabah flag. By today, foreigners in Sabah, illegal or otherwise including Project IC holders have already outnumbered genuine Malaysians.

"Sabahans are living on time bomb. We cried for help but it fell on deaf ear," he said.

Dr Chong said in 2000, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had said that the illegal immigrant problem in Sabah was serious, which he repeated in 2005.

It was considered critical by 2006 by the then Home Minister, meaning that Sabah's sovereignty was in imminent danger, he said.

"We are made to understand that the Barisan Nasional (BN) central government encouraged the huge influx of foreigners in the past decades and the issuance of the Project ICs for political agenda. Thus BN Government would not want to solve the problems," he said.

Dr Chong said Sabah took part in the formation of Malaysia primarily on security and sovereignty of Sabah within Malaysia.
