KOTA KINABALU: Smugglers made their way to Ranau with the hope that their contraband will not be detected by the Customs.
But they were wrong when 15 preventive officers from Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan got word about their activity and went into action.
Their pay-off was three arrests, 2,308 cartons of beer and 13,350 packets of cigarettes. There were also three boxes of fireworks among the seized items.
Sabah Customs director Datuk Yusop Mansor said assistant director (preventive) Hamzah Sundang led the raid which led them to Ranau town.
“Two teams from Kota Kinabalu and Ranau were involved in the operation on Friday,” Yusop said of the midnight sting.
The teams made their way to two stores in a low-housing area and Kg Rapak. Checks were also made in three shops suspected to be stores for contraband.
Yusop said that the goods were valued at RM327,663 inclusive of duties.
The three suspects will be charged soon after the investigations are completed.
