Najib Wants 'Demons' Trying To Derail Close Ties Between Malaysia And Indonesia Traced
MELAKA, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak wants Malaysia and Indonesia to trace the "demons" who were trying to derail the close ties between the two countries.
Stating that he had a very good relationship with the leadership of the neighbour, the prime minister said the two countries needed to further enhance bilateral ties and be united.
"Our people must get closer to each other, do not be overcome by emotions and lay siege to our embassy, we must be united. We must not give room to those out destroy the special relationship the two countries have,"
he said when oepning the 12th Malaysia World, Islamic World (DMDI) Convention here Thursday night.
Najib said if the two countries always helped each other, he was confident Malaysia-Indonesia relations could be brought to an even higher level.
He said he also hoped DMDI could play a role in resolving problems that crop involving the two countries.
His speech referred to the demonstration incidents outside the Malaysian embassy in Jakarta Wednesday and Thursday.
They wanted to vent their anger over news reports which said that some MPs had claimed in Indonesia's Parliament that Malaysia had seized 1,000 acres of land belonging to Indonesia along the Malaysia-Indonesia border in West Kalimantan.
However, their allegations were refuted by Indonesian Cabinet ministers.
On the DMDI, Najib said the movement could also be a force in bringing the peoples of the member countries closer.
To strengthen the DMDI, Najib urged its leadership to step up activities on fund raising, welfare, education and the economy in member countries.
He said to be a force to be reckoned with, the Malay world must master the latest knowledge including on innovation and creativity so that they could be generators of wealth.
At the function, the prime minister also launched DMDI's data bank and presented DMDI recognition awards to Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Md Isa Sabu, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman and South Sumatera governor Alex Noerdin.
